We have a guide to Rail travel in Europe, which is supposed to provide generalized information about rail travel in Europe. Otherwise if you go to a country's article under the "Get around" section we have a section about rail information for that particular country. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 18:48, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

This is my first edit on Wikivoyage. My understanding of this place is that there are articles about specific places, but not necessarily about things like trains that go between places. If I'm mistaken, please point me in the right direction. If I'm correct, please let me know how I might begin to work on such a concept. (WT-en) TedErnst 18:33, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

Welcome! See Project:What is an article? for an overview of what normally gets its own article, vs. what should be put in another article. We generally try to put information about (for example) trains in Switzerland within the country, region and city articles for Switzerland so that a traveler can find everything in one place. We do, however, have several Travel topics, including Rail travel in Europe that provide more general overviews for someone who might be thinking about a trip to Europe and wondering about a trip by train. -- (WT-en) Ryan 18:51, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
There are articles about specific places (destinations), and also about travel topics. Travel topics are meant to be a sort of a comprehensive overview of a subject, and we don't write them about individual providers. So for example, there is Rail travel in Europe and someone could write Rail travel in France if there was an overwhelming amount about French travel in the Europe article and it needed to be split out, but we won't have an article about just the TGV itself. You could also write itineraries or travel topics specific to an interest type, so for example we have Scuba diving and One month of Southeast Asian diving and culture, and if someone really interested in rail history or train-spotting shows up here they could write topics and itineraries about that interest.
Have a look at Project:What is an article?, Project:Geographical hierarchy and Project:Other ways of seeing travel for some info. (WT-en) Hypatia 18:56, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
