To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.
Hi! Thank you for your edits in Dunedin. Regards, jan (talk) 06:32, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikivoyage!
Thank you for your contributions to our Dunedin article.
Here's some helpful links about our our house style as well as some important information on the way your contributions will be licensed.
However, even more important than following every guideline is to PLUNGE FORWARD and write something useful – someone might be along to help with the proper formatting later!
Now, to try and respond to your edit summary question: I don't make the rules here (although I like to feel I have some input, along with everyone else) - but I do try and follow them.
This page: Listings (does have some errors that need correcting but) explains our template(s), while this page explains why I am using an en dash in time ranges: times. Because I try to follow our MoS I have partially reverted your edits.
PS: Although Dunedin currently has a non-standard sub-heading of "Free" that may change in the future, so it might be good to retain the tagged "Free" in the appropriate individual listings too.
All the best! -- Alice✉ 22:27, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't really care about the technicalities of the formatting - the problem is you changed the piece I just added so it literally says '10:00&ndash17:00' in the page if look at it. Can't you fix it so there is just a '-' in there or something else? Armin-t (talk) 23:33, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry for my mistake - I left off a semicolon at the end of the HTML entity "

The best way to improve our South Island articles is to simply keep adding good material that is helpful to both travellers already in NZ and those planning a trip.
Since I know the Southland, West Coast, Nelson/Tasman regions better than Canterbury or Dunedin regions it's quite natural (and very usual here on Wikivoyage) that I write about the areas I know — I've suggested in the past that you do too and add good useful material about destinations and topics that you know well.
When we have too much material, then we will need to balance things out a bit, but right now it might be better if you just add material to areas that you know about rather than continually carp on about my addition of material that you believe favours one area over another. I'm certainly not going to stop adding relevant material about regions I know well just to please you. I can't add material on every region to every section of every article - although I do occasionally pop in to areas I don't know well to do simple, boring things like fix grammar, consistent NZ spelling and Mos. Please, let's have no more of this negative attitude. -- Alice✉ 21:04, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Come on Alice, its not that bad. I'm beginning to quite enjoy our running battles. It does feel that since I have started editing, everything I do you come behind and tinker with it, which is certainly the origin of a little frustration on my part (esp when I know I'm correct), although obviously is the nature of a project like this. Hence my tongue in cheek comments - no offence is meant, just pointing out my impressions, and pulling you up for claims that may not be quite correct (in exactly the same fashion as is done to me). And I do appreciate you tidying my grammar and formatting while I'm learning the ropes here. Lots of love. Armin-t (talk) 21:22, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- The nature of a wiki is that your words will be changed (and sometimes even removed). Much of the editing I do is boring (but useful, I like to think) stuff like adding opening times, URLS, addresses and making sure that phone numbers and measurements are properly formatted. Don't hesitate to pull me up on stuff where I get it wrong - as you quite properly did (in the section just above) just as soon as I welcomed you here in your first days. Sometimes this can be difficult to word inoffensively when you can't see the other person's face or hear their tone of voice but I do think it important to leave helpful (rather than cryptic) edit summaries that ALL editors can understand - that's not to recognise that there is a social side to wikkering about. Kind regards to you and your family too. -- Alice✉ 21:33, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
