Hello Jan! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub. (WT-en) Akubra 16:11, 6 Apr 2004 (EDT)
Good start on Polish! We'll all help you polish it ;) I copied part of it to the French Wikivoyage, but wasn't sure what French is called in Polish. Also check out the pseudo-phoneticization guide. -(WT-en) phma 23:10, 7 Apr 2004 (EDT)
Alternate name Redirects
[edit]Good work for adding the alternative name redirects (Cracow, Kraków, Warszawa). I was inspired to add Danzig for Gdansk after I saw your improvements to that page. I only know these places from the British names that were used during the Second World War and Cold War. It is good to see what their modern English equivalent names are now. -- (WT-en) Huttite 17:14, 12 Jan 2005 (EST)
- Hmm, do you have any idea how far shout we go with redirects? I thought about adding Danzig, but thought that if I start with names other than Polish and English I may end up with more aliases that we really want. Eg. Warshau, Varsovie, Cracovie, Varšava,... ? -- (WT-en) JanSlupski 18:05, 12 Jan 2005 (EST)
- This is an English Wikivoyage, according to the Article naming conventions the most standard anglicised name should be used. I see redirects as being useful for common alternative anglicised names. Unless the other names are likely to be used in English then there is no need for the alternative name (or spelling). But if you feel strongly that the alternative name should be mentioned in the article too, as many English speakers would use or know that name, then it should probably have a redirect. A good check is to first search Wikivoyage for the alternative spellings to see if the name is used in another article already. You could also do a google search and count the number of articles found to see how common different alternative names/spellings are. - (WT-en) Huttite 14:56, 13 Jan 2005 (EST)
UNESCO World Heritage List sites
[edit]Hi, I see you are entering them as I write this. If you check the Talk on UNESCO World Heritage List you will see that it has become de facto style to link places like the Salt Mine to the nearest city which will have Sleep data. I have raised some new discussion, but links already exist as described. This would mean the link for Wieliczka Salt Mine is Krakow. There is talk of redirects instead of links but the ones I have seen are linked as I have done here. Linking this way also means they can each appear on one line. btw I have been to Kracow and the Salt Mine and was impressed. --(WT-en) Richard 2005 jan 17
- Actually, Wieliczka is a city near Krakow (see: [1])... -- (WT-en) JanSlupski 18:31, 17 Jan 2005 (EST)
- Ahh, ok, but that city has no article and Krakow has what is becoming a good one. Is Wieliczka ever likely to get an article of its own other than because it is the site of the mine? I don't remember seeing much of the city, we came from and went back to Krakow. I think the idea is to put the feature in the nearest place with Sleep content, it can always be moved later. I see the reference in the Krakow article, but because it is just a reference to another article, it hasn't got a lot of detail for what is a great attraction. I would have been pretty annoyed to miss it as it is one of only 788 such sites worldwide. I will leave it for you to decide. I am enjoying your contributions. --(WT-en) Richard 2005 jan 18
Great job!
[edit]I just wanted to express some appreciation for the great job you've been doing on Polish cities and regions lately. Thanks so much for the effort! --(WT-en) Evan 08:37, 19 Jan 2005 (EST)
Templates
[edit]You might want to check out Project:Using Mediawiki templates and Project:Using Mediawiki templates before you stick your finger into that particular electical outlet. :-) -- (WT-en) Colin 18:37, 21 Jan 2005 (EST)

Proposed Order of Other Languages, Wikipedia and DmoZ links
[edit]Please add your vote to support (or oppose) this proposed new policy on link order. -- (WT-en) Huttite 22:06, 22 Jan 2005 (EST)
Oops
[edit]Sorry about that! When I was reviewing the extlinks at the end of the article, I verified that warsawtour.pl was official, but I didn't connect that in my mind to the email link that I had removed five minutes before. Thanks for the correction! I formatted it a bit more Manual-of-Style like. If you don't like the formatting, do whatever you think is better. Cheers! -- (WT-en) Colin 15:29, 26 Jan 2005 (EST)
Cheers to you!
[edit]Thanks for dealing with all of the (WT-en) Jimbo Wales fun today - excellent job getting things back to normal! -- (WT-en) Ryan 20:18, 14 Aug 2005 (EDT)
- Yes. It's nice to see that people of good faith and patience can maintain their cool in the face of provocation. Good work, again. --(WT-en) Evan 23:05, 14 Aug 2005 (EDT)
Lodz
[edit]Dzien dobry,
Can you check the Lodz guide? I've been trying to improve it, however, I would feel more comfortable if a Pole would help me make sure everything is accurate.\
Thanks,
(WT-en) Sapphire 17:47, 24 Nov 2005 (EST)
- Once again sorry for late reaction. Saw your question while ago, but didn't have time (before) and possibility (recently) to do aything about it... I promise to review all recent changes to Lodz and other pages once I'm back home (what will be in a week). --(WT-en) JanSlupski 01:23, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)
wikivoyage po polsku
[edit]Hej!
Pomoglbys przy tworzeni wiki po polsku. Wiecej info na http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Polish_Wikivoyage_Expedition Are you going to help us to set up a polish wikivoyage ?
Wielkie dzieki / Cheers
Pawel / wikipawel
- I hope he does... I think he'd make a great go-between. --(WT-en) Evan 10:07, 29 Jan 2006 (EST)
- Sorry for late answers... Have been (ok, still I am) in... travels. ;-)
- Sure I'm going to help with Polish Wikivoyage. Just cannot promise much time for that (but will do my best). My only concern is if we have enough manpower to make it real. Otherwise I would prefer to stick to developing English (international?) version... --(WT-en) JanSlupski 01:19, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)
- I also guess that it will be hard with the manpower on the beginning but we can give "wiki po polsku" a chance. The wikipedia in Polish is on the top so hopefully it will happen the same with pl.wikivoyage.org. I have already done some stuff on wikivoyage in English I felt that I ( and hopefully other people ) would like to do something in my (their) native tongue. So lets tell people who can speak Polish how is beauifull on all over the world.
Fly Matrix
[edit]Hi Jan,
About your fly matrix: nice idea!
Do you know this webpage?
It may help you. I use it myself a lot and I think it's great. It's always updated. Cheers, --(WT-en) MD 18:16, 23 Feb 2006 (EST)
Warsaw stock exchange
[edit]Could you tell me where the Warsaw Stock Exchange is? I'm interested in it because it used to be the communist party head quarters, right? I like the irony or rather insult. (WT-en) Sapphire 10:56, 28 April 2006 (EDT)
- They have moved to the new building some time ago, but yes, they used to be in that building. It is on the corner of Aleje Jerolozimskie and Nowy świat.
- Look at the rectangular building SE from the Charles de Gaulle round.
- --(WT-en) JanSlupski 09:03, 2 May 2006 (EDT)
- Thanks! Just looked at the map. I used to walk by the building everyday in November and December 2004 (Seems like yesterday). I always thought that was it, but was never sure. I walked by it every time I went to a restaurant on Three Crosses Place called Modulor Cafe. (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 03:05, 22 May 2006 (EDT)
Deletion on pl:
[edit]Hi, Jan. Could you please check this (see below) vote for deletion? Thanks, (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 14:11, 29 May 2006 (EDT)
- I've copied the discussion below so that we can get it off of the VFD page. This image is likely a copyvio and should be removed from Polish Wikivoyage. -- (WT-en) Ryan 19:59, 13 June 2006 (EDT)
- PL:Grafika:Krakau05.jpg - Grrr. Our friend (WT-en) Shalom Alechem seems to have created a user account on PL and uploaded this image, which was deleted from EN, because its a copyvio. Anyone able to delete it off of PL? - (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 21:57, 25 May 2006 (EDT)
- Language versions have their own rules and procedures for deletion. I suggest we get in touch with (WT-en) JanSlupski, who is the go-between there. (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 14:08, 29 May 2006 (EDT)
- By the way, he has also uploaded it to pt:! We're voting it there now too. 200.130.8.1 17:29, 30 May 2006 (EDT)
- So does anything have to be done here or not? It would be nice to get this off the books. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 09:51, 11 June 2006 (EDT)
