Welcome to Wikivoyage and thanks for the contributions to Mongolia articles! It would be great to turn one or more of them into stars!

If you have some spare time and would like to look under the hood of the site a little, have a look at Wikivoyage's Manual of Style and linked pages, and visit the Pub to see what others are doing in other corners of the site.

    All the best,

Hi. If you're reading this, please explain in Ölgii what "guanz" means, if you want to use the word. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:18, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I added a longer description. It is a Mongolian word for cafe or canteen. —The preceding comment was added by Altaihunters (talkcontribs)

    Off the Beaten Path nomination

    [edit]

Hi. I nominated Ölgii for "Off the Beaten Path." Please have a look at the nomination here: Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates.

There's a wrinkle, though: In order for the article to be run, all listings need to be put into standard Wikivoyage listing format. I'm sure the article won't be run immediately, in any case, but if you would take it upon yourself to help begin the process of listifying the article, that would be great!

    All the best,

    Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:47, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I am almost done with Tavan Bogd page, and am working on the map for Olgii right now. Altaihunters (talk) 08:58, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Terrific! When you have a chance, if you could also start listifying, that would be great. I'm sure the page won't be featured until it's listified. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:05, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
So, I have been looking at the banners section, but I'm not sure how to crop a photo to the correct size. Would it be possible to post a picture and have it cropped by someone else? Altaihunters (talk) 02:57, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I actually have never made a banner and haven't tried hard to learn yet. But yes, I would think that would be possible. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:13, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Greetings

Happy to see you putting up more content! How've you been? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:46, 7 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Been real busy all summer with vacation and work. I want to improve more pages on Mongolia going forward, but I still want to get Ölgii to star status and make Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and Tsambagarav National Park guide articles. Altaihunters (talk) 03:28, 7 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Last I looked, Ölgii looked very close to star status. I'm sure you'll succeed at these tasks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:51, 7 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Genghis Khan article?

    [edit]

We have some articles like On the trail of Marco Polo and On the trail of Kipling's Kim, both mainly by me. Their talk pages have discussion of what does & doesn't belong in such articles. I wonder if one about the Khan or more generally about the Mongol conquests and Empire would be worthwhile. Pashley (talk) 11:51, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pashley! Are you proposing that we create an travel itinerary On the trail of Genghis Khan? It would certainly hit a lot of places, but would probably have less Mongol specific archeology than Alexander the Great or the Crusades. Let me look at what things could go into a travel article about the Mongol conquests first. I'm not sure if there is a very well defined set of places to see that have significant sites related to the Mongols. Now a On the trail of Alexander the Great would have a clearly defined path with many large sites related to Alexander, though it would spend a lot of time in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.Altaihunters (talk) 23:10, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. I did most of Kim & Marco Polo, and I've thought of Alexander. I stated one on Sinbad the sailor at User:Pashley/Sandbox but lost interest. I saw you working on Mongol stuff so I asked the questions above. I'm not sure what might be done or whether there's much point, given that we have both Silk Road and Marco Polo plus things like Istanbul to New Delhi over land and Trans-Siberian railway. Worth thinking about, anyway. Pashley (talk) 01:53, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
What about adding some info to Marco Polo article about William of Rubruck and John of Plano Carpini journeys to China and Karakorum and some background on the Mongol Empire and places visited? Maybe broaden it some.Altaihunters (talk) 05:40, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Mentioning the other travellers would be fine (Ibn Batuta is a already mentioned) but I do not think putting any detail into that article would be; keep it about Polo. Nor do I think the others are well enough known to get their own articles.
Adding stuff on the Empire and places visited sounds good. Much of it should go in destination articles rather than the itinerary, though. Pashley (talk) 13:16, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park OtBP nomination

    [edit]

How are you, User:Altaihunters? I hope life is treating you well. I just wanted to tell you that the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park article, which you did so much to improve, has been nominated for Off the Beaten Path. If there's anything that needs updating, by all means take care of it at your leisure. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:46, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
