To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.--ϒpsilon (talk) 16:18, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

When to disambiguate and other questions
[edit]Hello, Billie bb, and thanks a lot for starting some new articles about places in the Philippines. I think you'll want to look at Welcome, Wikipedians, though, for a couple of reasons. First, we don't use disambiguations in article titles unless they're needed. So for example, since there's no other place called Calasiao with an article on Wikivoyage, the article's title should simply be Calasiao. Second, long lists of barangays are not of any real value to a visitor. Many visitors won't even know what a barangay is, and that will likely have no effect on their visit.
So please keep adding content, but try to keep it as relevant to travelers as possible, and when you have some spare time, consider having a look through the Wikivoyage:Manual of style.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, just reply below and I or someone else will be happy to answer as well as we can.
All the best,

- Definitely look at Welcome, Wikipedians. I just looked at the Villasis article. Not only is the list of barangays likely useless to travelers, but the lede really doesn't explain why someone would want to visit. "Villasis, Pangasinan has 21 barangays Villasis is Class B municipality" is not interesting for potential visitors to read. They'll likely said "Who cares that it has 21 barangays [if they even know what that means], and who or what a Class B municipality is or which cities are so classified?" Instead, it would be great if the lede and "Understand" section could address this question: What's interesting about Villasis? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:39, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks Ikan Kekek for the advise and the links and for editing Calasiao and Villasis. I'll read the links and consider it the next time i edit Wikivoyage. I'll also consider these the next time we do an edit-a-thon. The articles on Villasis and Calasiao are products of that edit-a-thon held last 25 March 2017 at Pangasinan, Philippines and we (the group in-charge of the edit-a-thon) failed to monitor the creation of new articles in Wikivoyage because we were aiming at improving articles in a local language Wikipedia, although we mentioned Wikivoyage when we introduced other Wikimedia projects. This incident will be indicated in the "what went wrong" part of the edit-a-thon report. I'll also mention your comment and forward the links to the local partners (who reside in Pangasinan) of the edit-a-thon so that if and when they continue to edit Wikivoyage articles, they will be guided. They also know Villasis and Calasiao more than I do. Thanks again. Billie bb (talk) 06:47, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, an edit-a-thon. Those are great! It's just that it's helpful for people who are familiar with Wikipedia to read Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians before editing or starting new articles. But we've gotten a lot of good contributions from editing projects from universities and so forth. Articles about the Philippines need a lot of help, so any more enthusiastic editors on deck is a good thing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:54, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yup, I agree. Unfortunately, we just mentioned Wikivoyage during the introduction thinking that no one would create an article. Our mistake. We used to demonstrate Wikivoyage articles during our past edit-a-thons which targeted local government units and local tourism officials. Demonstration included topics on what Wikivoyage is all about (what to include, the do's and the don'ts, etc.). Its just that this particular edit-a-thon was not designed for Wikivoyage so we did not really introduce Wikivoyage. Anyway, we'll do better next time in terms of Wikivoyage. Articles about the Philippines really need a lot of improvement so we are hoping that every time we do an edit-a-thon, a new editor will continue editing even after the edit-a-thon. Thanks again.
