Page banners
[edit]- Hello and welcome (back)! I like the banners you made, especially the one for North Coast (California). Well done! --Danapit (talk) 04:49, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yay! Thank you User:Danapit that means so much. That was my FIRST banner! So it's a new experience for me. Quite pleased with myself for figuring it out (thanks to this guide.) Your words are encouraging, thanks again :) Missvain (talk) 04:53, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Again, great job with page banners, especially Å and Äänekoski are just wonderful! Sadly, Sonoma and El Verano, although nice pictures, need some attention. The minimal banner width is 1800 px - this is why the banners don't reach the right side of the page. Perhaps you might be able and willing to find some other appropriate photos in higher resolution? --Danapit (talk) 08:13, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, strange, on my computer they are perfect, but I have a 13" MacBook :) (I have made a few failed banners...clearly I wasn't thinking about larger screens). I'll snoop around. Living in the area, I can really stand to take some better photos. The El Verano photo is all we have on Commons. I'll keep my camera in my car and see what I can do :) Missvain (talk) 15:41, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- People should get Macbooks so that they wouldn't need to whine about narrow banners. By just looking at the banner I can't see there being anything wrong with it over here either!
- Seriously, though here's a tip: if you use photos from Commons, when you've found a photo, have a look at the file page - under the photo it says how large it is in pixels (the Original file part). If the width is less than 1800 px, you need to find another one. Myself, I don't use photos narrower than 2100 px. Ps. in case you didn't know, you can simply use Preview to make banners too. - Haha, see if we all had Macbooks - no problem! I'm an admin on Commons and fairly versed in the workings of file sizes on that website, but I appreciate the reminder. I was making these banners at the beginning of my banner experiments upon my return to Wikitrav..Voyage. So a few early mess-ups...when they looked fine on my screen I didn't even think of it. The most recent ones I have made are all proper sizing and such, with the 2100px size. Sadly so many of photos we have for Sonoma Valley just plain suck. So, I have a new task....photo time! - Hi Sarah. Thanks for the banners. It is a good practice to add them directly to Wikidata, which would save you the trouble of adding them to multiple projects.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:31, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, ok I had no clue. I just now read it with your suggestion on the banner expedition page. Sorry I have failed to do that! I will remember (I also am a big Wikidata contributor, so perfect :) ) Missvain (talk) 19:36, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Karonga pagebanner
[edit]Hi. Thanks for posting a pagebanner on the Karonga page, and for your other edits to the page, but I'm concerned about the photo of 8 recognizable people as pagebanner, so please address that at Talk:Karonga. Thanks a lot.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:15, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Akershus banner
[edit]Nice photo but not in Akershus I am afraid. --Erik den yngre (talk) 08:10, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Good point. This is probably photographed somewhere from 1 here, so the closest articles we have at en:WV must be Gjøvik or Hamar. --Danapit (talk) 08:54, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- OK, I'm just going to remove it and others can sort it out, if it hasn't been removed already. Missvain (talk) 15:33, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
