    Congresses

    [edit]

Thanks for all the good work you're doing! One question: I don't know what you mean by "congresses," such as in this description of the Congress Palace and Auditorium of La Rioja: "Inaugurated in 2004. It hosts congresses, conferences and concerts." Is a "congress" something different from a conference? If so, how is it different? Here in the US, the only thing we call "Congress" is the Legislative Branch of the Federal (national) government. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:27, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Actually you are right, we use both congresos and conferencias without a clear distinction, being congreso mainly the name of the whole event while conferencias are the talks inside of the event. Do you think the name should be changed also from Congress Palace to Conference Palace? --Pablovp (talk) 10:41, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
No, I wouldn't change the name, but I would just describe it as hosting "conferences and concerts," no "congresses," as we don't use the word the same way in modern English. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:09, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Good, thanks for your correction! --Pablovp (talk) 11:18, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing. In the US, what you call "conferencias," we would call "meetings," as in "There were a lot of meetings at that conference." However, a single meeting can also be called a "conference." So Spanish is clearer in this case. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:25, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Once we are talking, I have another doubt. Could "Congress Palace and Auditorium of La Rioja" be named as "La Rioja's Congress Palace and Auditorium"? Which one is preferred? --Pablovp (talk) 12:14, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
"Congress Palace and Auditorium of La Rioja", because that's the name of the building. In a sentence, it could be described as "La Rioja's Congress Palace," but I wouldn't describe it that way in a formal entry. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:19, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
    Thanks again! --Pablovp (talk) 12:23, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
