More on Photos

[edit]

Dear Ikan Kekek, Thank you for the kind letters. Better photos are matter of judgement. So feel free to remove any image that is not 'better'. Regards, --Prof TPMS (talk) 09:01, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

In most cases, there is no other choice, and that's where we're most indebted to you for taking photos! In the case of the Mysore Palace, there were many photos on Commons, and I chose a good one that was distant and therefore wasn't blocked in any way by people in the crowd, who were part of the photo but don't distract the viewer in any way. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:08, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Dear Ikan Kekek, Mysore is a beautiful city, if you can keep away from the touristy places. The frequently visited places are all crowded and taking a photograph without someone in the middle is virtually impossible. The residential suburbs of Mysore are very sweet with people having a laid back culture. They get up at eight in the morning, work only a few hours and are always found in parks and gardens. With regards,--Prof TPMS (talk) 14:13, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I fully understand that there are big crowds in every Indian city. But there apparently is still a way to take a panoramic photo of the Mysore Palace from a sufficient distance and adequate location to avoid having people in the foreground. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:31, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dear Ikan Kekek, like in the novel ʽThe City & the Cityʼ of China Miéville, every city has two faces. One is touristy, commercialized or crowded and not a single photograph is possible. Another is beautiful and cultured and you want to take out your camera very often. Mysore become that self by 6.30 am and loses it by 6.45 am when the traffic and the crowds begin to appear. Copying from Wikipedia

    [edit]

Hello, Prof, and thanks as always for the useful content you so diligently add to articles!

However, please remember that it's a violation of Wikivoyage policy and Wikipedia's Creative Commons license to copy entire paragraphs without credit. In addition, copying WP content including links that are irrelevant and become red links on Wikivoyage is always a bad idea. As a result, I reverted this edit. Please summarize and paraphrase as appropriate, remove useless or irrelevant links, and mention in your edit summary that you have taken content from w:Hosur. Thanks.

    All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:48, 20 July 2016 (UTC) ː Yes, dear Ikan Kekek , I will do like that. Regards, --Prof TPMS (talk) 13:06, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

    Too many photos

    [edit]

Hi, Prof. Don't you think Mandya (district) has too many images now? Two are fully below what would otherwise be the end of the article. Do you plan on adding lots of content to the article very soon? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:19, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

ː Ikan Kekek, I have deleted two of the photographs. I will certainly add more content. That will take a little time. Regards, --Prof TPMS (talk) 11:58, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

    I look forward to that.

    All the best,
    Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:44, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi. It looks to me like you're going overboard with the photos again. After your edits to Mysore (district), the last two photos extend beyond the end of the article on my browser. I think it would be more useful to visitors for you to concentrate on adding more content, rather than trying to fit too many photos into articles with little content. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:00, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Also, a remark on the quality of some of the photos you're taking: Try to avoid really slanted ones, and if your photo is slanted, use software to flip the image so that it's level and crop accordingly. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:02, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK,Ikan Kekek, I have removed the last photograph. Thanks. Prof TPMS (talk) 23:15, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

You mean the last photo. But there were two photos that went beyond the article; now there's one. I don't want to just delete that photo; I'd like you to please decide which image is least important, delete that one, and make sure the last photo isn't as low as it now is. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:22, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Dear Ikan Kekek, in the page Mysore (district), the photograph of the silk saree is aligned against the bottom of the 'eat' section and three other sections like Drink, Stay Safe and Go Next still hangs below that last photograph. I am speaking of my ordinary 15" laptop. So I can't imagine what you are saying. Prof TPMS (talk) 09:49, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
What I am saying is that on my laptop screen, the last photo is entirely beyond the article. It looks like you will need to be very conservative in adding images, or others will simply remove them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:53, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

ːːːː OK, Ikan Kekek, I have removed two more images. It is quite easy for me to be conservative in this matter. Regards, Prof TPMS (talk) 11:02, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

    Tumkur

    [edit]

Thank you for your edits to Tumkur. They are a big improvement to the article. It would be really helpful, though, if you could provide at least address information for the hotels you have added. Telephone, email, website information would be really worth adding, too, if it is available. The listings don't help travellers if they can't find the hotels. Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 01:25, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Ground Zero (talk). The hotel information was collected from a moving bus. Otherwise, telephone numbers are always included. --Prof TPMS (talk) 16:12, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi, same request for the homestay you just added to Kumarakom, please. I appreciate you may not have the time or ability to add multiple contacts, but an accommodation listing with no contact details at all is of almost zero usefulness.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:52, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
If I google "water lily flower farms kumarakom", or "100-Acre Water Lily Flower Farms", or "water lily flower farms ellykkal", I can't find anything.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:56, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
ThunderingTyphoons!, thank you for the observation. This entry was meant for 'See' section and I have moved it there. I have also removed the homestay option. Regards, Prof TPMS (talk) 13:02, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
That's fair enough, thanks for looking into it. I do think my point about contact details is still valid, as the address doesn't seem very precise; when you type in "Ellykkal, Kumarakom" to Google Maps, you get this. Is that the correct place? Even if so, it's still a 3- or 4-km² area that a traveller will have to search. Does this place have a street address, or even a website or phone number? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 14:05, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
ː Hmmm. Yes, I will try to collect some contact information. Thank you.Prof TPMS (talk) 23:23, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
    [edit]

Hi, and thanks for adding content as always, but please (re)read what not to link to. YouTube and Google are among the many 3rd-party sites we don't link to. Also, while I'm at it, remember not to include default information (the same name as the article name, etc.) in your address tabs. Let me know if you have any questions about any of this. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:21, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

ː Dear Ikan Kekek , I am happy to hear from you after such a long time. I have noted the objections raised by you and will follow them in the coming contributions. With regards, --Prof TPMS (talk) 02:56, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Great. Have a happy new year and stay healthy! Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Capitalisation

    [edit]

One more quick thing. If you think of it, have a quick glance at Wikivoyage:Capitalization and capitalise only proper nouns and related adjectives. If not, though, no big deal, as adding content is much more important.

    All the best,

    Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:01, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

ː ːIkan Kekek Yes, yes. --Prof TPMS (talk) 01:53, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Sunday Holiday

    [edit]

What does that mean here? The eatery is open or closed then, or something else? If this is about opening/closing hours, it should be in the "hours" tab. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:38, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

ː Well, Ikan Kekek, I have moved it to Hours Tab. Thank you for your meticulous review. --Prof TPMS (talk) 01:02, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

That doesn't solve the problem. Is it open or closed on Sundays and holidays? If it's open, what are the hours? The reason I posted here is that I literally can't understand what you mean. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:03, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
ː OK Ikan Kekek, I have changed it as "Not open on Sundays". Regards again, --Prof TPMS (talk) 01:55, 19 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
