To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.
Thanks for contributing to articles around the Hertfordshire area!
FYI on Wikivoyage the prefix "Wikivoyage:" is used only for "official" policy pages, and therefore the original title of the article you created, Brookmans Park is correct. If you want to add more to the article, add it to that page rather than Wikivoyage:Brookmans Park. I would also advise merging all content into the Brookmans Park article since the other pagename might be deleted.
Thanks for contributing, and keep up the good work!
All the best,

Copying content from elsewhere
[edit]Hello, RobThinks. Thanks very much for your edits. I was just looking at your additions to Farnham, and I can see that you copied some of the descriptive content from the pubs' websites. This is something to avoid for two reasons:
- Wikivoyage is written primarily by travellers, for travellers. Therefore we write from the perspective of our readers for their benefit, not from the perspective of business owners, who all too often only wish to tout on behalf of their own narrow interests.
- Wikivoyage has a creative commons licence which guarantees that all our content is free to be copied and adapted by anyone for any purpose. That means we cannot ourselves reuse content from copyrighted sources such as pub websites, lest we be breaking the law.
What you can do instead of copying and pasting, is read what a pub's website says and rewrite the relevant information in your own words.
I hope this makes sense; please ask if you have any questions. All the best, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 12:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for trying (I think?), but this article as you've created it is a disaster. My first thought was to just delete it; I chose not to but another admin may choose differently.
A huge problem is that you seem to have taken one of our templates, which are designed to make formatting articles easier, and added "nowiki" tags which disable all the formatting. Please remove all those tags.
Another problem is that it lacks content. There's currently an active discussion at Wikivoyage_talk:Deletion_policy#Speedily_deleting_abandoned_stub_articles about deleting such articles, but the issues are not whether they should be deleted (that is generally agreed), but whether they can be summarily removed or discussion is needed first, & how long to wait for the user to add content before acting. - I removed the mashed up formatting, however the article does need some content. --Ypsilon (talk) 13:31, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed I tried to create this article in Nin on my iPhone - I was a disaster that I vowed to sort out when I got back to the UK which is what I will do. RobThinks (talk) 19:59, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
