Read the Wikivoyage:Don't tout page, etc.
[edit]Hello, Wsw1357! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.
If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage.
Also: Please omit default address information, which would be "Nanyang, Henan, China" in the Nanyang article.
Let us know if you have questions after you've read the links I've given you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:52, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your message and for reviewing my edits. I would like to clarify that I am just a university student learning how to use Wikivoyage and have no intention of promoting any business.
- The hotel I added was selected because, according to its official website in China, it seemed to have a good environment and reasonable price, which I thought could be useful information for travelers. I did not aim to advertise it, but simply wanted to share helpful travel information.
- I apologize for any misunderstanding and will make sure to follow Wikivoyage’s guidelines in future edits. Thank you for your understanding.
- Best regards, Wsw1357 (talk) 07:32, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- Make sure you read the links I gave you, so that you understand what is and is not a problem, as your remarks show that you don't understand because you haven't read the links. I'm well aware of your being a student. That does not release you from following Wikivoyage policies and guidelines. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:25, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- I have thoroughly read the Wikivoyage editing guidelines you shared. However, some hotels do not provide as much detailed information as described in the Compass guide, and some official websites offer limited data. To ensure accuracy, I only added information that I could verify as correct. Please take a look at my recent edits in the Sleep section to see if they meet the requirements. Thank you for your suggestions! I’ll keep working hard to improve my Wikivoyage editing skills. Wsw1357 (talk) 10:44, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- You have thoroughly read Wikivoyage:Don't tout? In that case, you need to reread it more carefully, and also look at Wikivoyage:Words to avoid, because this kind of listing is not OK:
- "The first high-end hotel in Nanyang, offering luxurious rooms, an all-day restaurant, fitness center, and conference facilities, suitable for business and leisure travel."
- "Suitable for business and leisure travel" is a purely promotional phrase, and luxurious how?
- You also have this for the Kyriad Hotel:
- "directions=Located within Kyriad Hotel, convenient transportation and surrounding commercial facilities."
- That is not what is supposed to be in "directions" (review Wikivoyage:Listings) and is location touting, too.
- Which parts of the links I've given you are unclear? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:22, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, now I fully understand what you mean! Thank you for your guidance. ~2025-29660-12 (talk) 06:08, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Please stop making links to other travel guides
[edit]Hi. I notice you have been creating links to sites like Trip.com and TripAdvisor on the Wanning page in violation of Wikivoyage policy. Please read our policy here: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:External_links#What_not_to_link_to STW932 (talk) 12:22, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm very sorry for causing such a mistake. I don't have the computer with me now. I will make corrections immediately during the day tomorrow. Thank you for your reminder! ~2025-31625-47 (talk) 15:44, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
The purpose of the "alt" tab
[edit]The "alt" tab in listings is for alternate names, so it's where you should put the name in Chinese characters. Thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:44, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the tip! Wsw1357 (talk) 09:49, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sure thing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:07, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
The lede (introductory paragraph) vs. "Understand"
[edit]I wanted to make sure you read this edit summary. The edits themselves are worth your looking at but less important than the edit summary. I'd also suggest for you to look at the lede and "Understand" sections of destination articles in Category:Star articles and Category:Guide articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:39, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, I will carefully review the edit summary you sent me and make the suggested changes to improve the article. Thank you for your guidance and feedback! ~2025-37875-48 (talk) 11:23, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- This requires some thought, and some examples could help. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:51, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
Please omit default address information
[edit]In the Zhoukou guide, it's assumed that all listings are for places in Zhoukou, so don't include the city's name in addresses. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:02, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! Thank you for the reminder. May I confirm if I should remove “Zhoukou City” from the location addresses? Wsw1357 (talk) 09:18, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- That's default information, right? Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:59, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand. I have removed Zhoukou City from the place name.Thank you for reminding me! Wsw1357 (talk) 04:55, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- Omit Hefei in the Hefei guide, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:01, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

Spaces
[edit]Hi again. Please make sure to always put a space after every comma and every period that's followed by another sentence. Note that you did not in these edits. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:20, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Also, the "Orientation" subsection is useless unless you tell readers how to tell one district (etc.) from another. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:21, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- I missed the message because I was back in China for the past two days. Thank you for your guidance; I will correct my two mistakes.Thank you! Wsw1357 (talk) 12:48, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
