Shanghai
[edit]Talk:Shanghai & its archive page have extensive discussion of how to break the area up into districts. For recent stuff see Talk:Shanghai#More_on_districts and Talk:Shanghai#Decision_on_Downtown_Shanghai. Either of those, & I think especially the latter, could use comments from more people familiar with the city. Pashley (talk) 18:24, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Get in/around listings
[edit]Hi there,
I notice you've been adding a few get in/get around listings (example here). These are great additions, but, just so you know, as you've been adding generic listings, there is preferred a listing type for these sections, type=go, which you can add as a parameter to the template.
I also notice you've been adding Wikipedia links to the listings, which is great. Why not also add the Wikidata parameter, while you're at it? This makes it easier to synchronize future changes and also allows automatic acquisition of images if they are added to the item. You can add the Wikidata ID in one click with the listing editor by clicking the "WP" button next to the Wikidata field. You can also change the listing type in the editor.

Thanks
[edit]Thanks for your recent edits to Kunming (and to China articles in general). I'm planning a trip to Kunming soon, and it'll be good to have up-to-date information. —Granger (talk · contribs) 10:10, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your great work on Wuhan. Here are some tangbao for you. Let's hope that Wuhan is open again soon. Ground Zero (talk) 10:50, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Are you sure?
[edit]Re: this. The second listing (canyon) states "Zhangjiajie City", so that may be correct page for it. For the first one, it is named after the city, so maybe it can be in both articles? Tourists might expect to find it mentioned there? Piotrus (talk) 07:34, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- I believe geographical location is a more important factor than the place name in determining where we put a listing. However, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is in Cili County and we don't yet have an article on Cili County, so I guess it would probably be okay if we were to have a listing for Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon in both Zhangjiajie and Wulingyuan. STW932 (talk) 08:19, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- I suppose Zhangjiajie National Forest Park could also be listed in Zhangjiajie, but since it's clearly located in Wulingyuan. I believe there should be fewer details about it in the Zhangjiajie article compared with the Wulingyuan article. STW932 (talk) 08:38, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies for chiming in here, but unless it's so notable enough to be an exception to WV:OUTSIDE, STW932 made the right call. If needed, a "nearby" section can be created. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:39, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Prefecture-level cities like Zhangjiajie tend to draw their boundaries very wide, which means many places that are far from the main urban area are still technically part of the city. See Chinese_provinces_and_regions#Lower-level divisions. To avoid confusion, I have created separate subsections in the See section for urban and rural attractions. STW932 (talk) 11:10, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Wulingyuan is officially a district of Zhangjiajie, so perhaps it is WV:GH that applies here rather than WV:OUTSIDE. STW932 (talk) 17:24, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Interesting
[edit]This. But can we add information on why? And ideally, since when this is in effect, and perhaps "as of"? Do we have a system to update such warnings? And a category for places similarly affected? Piotrus (talk) 02:47, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, I will add a few additional details. The official statement from the Luoyang Public Security Bureau does not give a reason for the prohibition but Chinese media sources say that it is because of the extensive military infrastructure in the region. The prohibition applies not only to Luanchuan County, but also to Song County and Yichang County (both of which border Luanchuan County). I have not been able to determine how long the prohibition has been in place, but it appears that it began at least a decade ago, if not earlier. We can add a date to the caution box to indicate that the prohibition is still current. I'm not aware of any special system for updating these warnings, so I assume we just update them like any other details on Wikivoyage. I'm also not aware of any category for places similarly affected.
- The official statement from the Luoyang Public Security (which is in both Chinese and English) is reproduced on the website of the Henan University of Science and Technology. See here: https://wsc.haust.edu.cn/info/1054/1430_1.htm The docucment states: "Without approval, foreigners shall not enter into an area with restrictions of foreigners' entrance. At present, Yiyang County, Luanchuan County and Song County of Luoyang City are not open for foreigners." For some reason, I cannot find this document on the website of the Luoyang Public Security Bureau. However, it is often cited by Chinese media articles about the prohibition. Here is a recent article, which includes a screenshot of the document: https://baijiahao.baidu.com/s?id=1774459851553480126&wfr=spider&for=pc STW932 (talk) 05:03, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
Historic department stores in Shanghai
[edit]I was just wondering if you have been to Shanghai recently? I read news that the Shanghai No. 1 Department Store was being converted into a shopping centre in 2018, so if you have been there since then, is the old The Sun department store building still used as a department store, or is it just like a regular shopping centre now? The new shopping centre includes some of the neighbouring buildings, so I wonder if perhaps they have kept the original building as a department store. If you have information, it would be appreciated if you can help adding some to Legacy department stores. The dog2 (talk) 23:00, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately my last visit to Shanghai was way back in 2015. But speaking of old department stores, I know of a notable old department store in Harbin called the Churin Department Store and I'm planning to visit Harbin early next year, so I'll add a listing for the Churin Department Store later.
