Cities

[edit]
View of Taüll and Pla de la Ermita

Villages and hamlets in the valley, including the number of residents.

  • Taüll (290 inhabitants) The town houses two of the Romanesque churches of the Vall de Boí declared World Heritage by UNESCO. There is a record of it since 806, when this region was liberated from Muslim subjugation.
  • Boí (234 inhabitants in 2023) Boí has a walled old town, partly taking advantage of the rocks of the place and partly the houses themselves, with the castle at the western end and the church of Sant Joan a little to the northwest, outside the walled area. The town has grown considerably thanks to winter and summer tourism, and a modern town has gradually formed with the road as its backbone.
Barruera
  • Barruera : (232 inhabitants in 2024) is the central town of the Vall de Boí and the one with the most shops. The first mention of the existence of Barruera is given to us in a document from 1064. The tourist offer in Barruera is quite wide and varied. In addition, it is divided into a winter campaign, focused on skiing, and a summer campaign, focused on the mountains and family holiday tourism. The town has a wide range of hotels, guesthouses, rural tourism residences and restaurants.
  • Pla de l'Ermita : (112 inhabitants in 2024) It began as a group of hotels and shops, for tourism in the summer and for skiers of the Boí-Taüll ski resort, and has grown into a town. In the Pla de l'Ermita there are a lot of services, among which the leisure venues stand out: shops, restaurants, and pubs. In the 1980s it was when the Pla de l'Ermita began to be created and give rise to hotels and the first houses. As of 2026, the town is made up of more than 600 private homes (mainly second homes) and a series of hotels that make its tourist capacity very important and increases greatly during the peak tourist seasons.
Overview of Erill la Vall
  • Erill la Vall: (104 inhabitants in 2024) The old town of Erill la Vall is declared a cultural asset of national interest. The old town of the municipality is located at 1255 m above sea level. The church of Santa Eulàlia d'Erill la Vall stands out from the whole, whose bell tower is an important visual landmark and its attached cemetery. The construction, in the early 1960s, of a hotel near the church, spoils the profile of the population. The manor house of the lords of Erill is mentioned in documents from the year 1064.
  • Durro: (100 inhabitants in 2024) Durro is located at an altitude of 1,386 m. Although it does not have a walled village structure, many of the current houses have elements (walls, corner posts, etc.) of a clear medieval make, which gives the whole village an ancient appearance, despite the numerous restorations of houses that it has undergone. It is said to be the best-kept village in the Valley and the one that best preserves its spirit. Behind the appearance of stone houses, steep streets and Romanesque buildings, it maintains the intact urban structure of a medieval village. The parish church of the village is the Nativitat de Durro; to the south of the village is the hermitage of Sant Quirc de Durro. Both have been declared World Heritage Sites. It was first documented in the second half of the 11th century.
Cóll from Santa Maria church
  • Cóll: (30 inhabitants in 2024) It is the southernmost town in its municipal area, and from it, towards the north, the Boí valley opens. At the height of Cóll, the frontal moraine of the glacier that formed this valley must have begun, always towards the north. It is first mentioned in documents in 1054. It is a population centre located on a hillside, at 1180 m altitude, to the right of the Noguera de Tor, downstream of the Cabanasses strait. The Romanesque parish church (12th century) of Santa Maria de Cóll has been modernly dedicated to the Assumption. It has sculptural decoration (capitals and a chrismon), it preserves a notable Gothic altarpiece and two carvings from the 16th century.
  • Saraís: (9 inhabitants in 2024) The old town is abandoned, and only a few houses remain located near Noguera de Tor. It is accessed by a rural track that leads only by crossing the river to the current Saraís, from where you can go east to access the ruins of the old town, deep in the bottom of its valley, a little higher than the current one. This rural track leaves the L-500, north of Cóll: on the right, passing over a narrow bridge, you reach Saraís, from where the track continues towards Pont de Suert, passing through the towns of Iran, Irgo, Igüerri and Gotarta. Saraís appears in one of the agreements between the counts of Pallares, from around 1070:
  • Cardet: (7 inhabitants in 2024) It is a historical complex declared a cultural asset of national interest. Located approximately at almost 1,200 m above sea level, you can see much of the valley, and the town of Cardet is also visible from many places. The apse of the church, high and located on a steep slope, stands out both from Barruera and from many other places in the area. Cardet is first mentioned in documents from 1054. The main economic activity is livestock farming with transhumant herds. Tourism is somewhat developed in the town, but not enough to have transformed it, as has happened in other towns in the valley.
  • Caldes de Boí: (3 inhabitants in 2024) is a sanctuary with a spa and an attached farmhouse. It is located at an altitude of 1,470 m. In 2024 it had 3 inhabitants, although the presence of two hotels and a thermal centre means that more people usually live there, although not permanently. The numerous springs in the area, with mineral and medicinal waters, have given it its name (Caldes means "hot spring" in Catalan). The Font del Bou stands out, which is the best known because its water is bottled and sold. There are also other springs, such as the Font de la Tartera, which is used as medicinal water, and the Font de Santa Llúcia, whose water is used to cure the eyes. During Roman times there were high mountain spas where pilgrims stopped to take the waters. Later, towards the Middle Ages, the chapel of the Mare de Déu de Caldes was built there. In the 18th century, the sanctuary's outbuildings were built.

UNESCO world heritage churches in Boi Valley

[edit]
Sant Climent de Taüll. Pantocrator
Sant Climent de Taüll

The Romanesque heritage of Vall de Boí is exceptional due to the existence of a large number of churches of the same architectural style concentrated in such a small area. Until well into the last century the valley remained quite isolated.

The Romanesque paintings of the church of Sant Climent de Taüll, one of the most important jewels of the Catalan Romanesque, have an innovative presentation through a video mapping that recreates the original frescoes in the main apse and the presbytery of the central nave. The original painting dates from the 12th century and is preserved in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, MNAC.

  • 42.5172220.8483331 Romanesque Church of Sant Climent de Taüll. M-Sa 10:00-14:00, 16:00-19:00, Su 10:00-14:00; Summer: daily 10:00-14:00, 16:00-20:00. Consecrated on December 10, 1123, by Bishop Ramon Guillem of Roda. First mentioned in a 1064 sale-exchange by Counts of Pallars Sobirà (Artau I and Llúcia) to Counts of Pallars Jussà (Ramon IV and Valença), alongside Erill Castle. Built over an 11th-century predecessor, retaining some fragments like south wall and lower apse. Shared parish with Santa Maria de Taüll; attempted Erill lords' monastic nucleus. Passed to Urgell Diocese in Late Middle Ages under co-rectors system. Key restorations: 1919-1922 mural extractions to MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona), 1970s, 2000-2001 (new murals discovered). €5. Exterior: Basilical plan with three naves separated by cylindrical columns, wooden roof at two waters, triapsidal head (central apse, two absidioles). South-oriented square tower near apses, six storeys high. Rustic stone walls without windows except doors (west, south, tower). Lombard decoration on apses: quadruple blind arcades on central (doubles, separated by half-columns), triple on absidioles; saw-tooth friezes. Regular ashlar courses; west portal under vanished porch.
Interior: Naves lack windows; columns (some from bedrock) topped by collarinos (Lombard), simple abaci supporting arches. Apse vaults; walls once fully polychrome. Presbytery column bears consecration inscription in Latin. Central apse murals (MNAC originals, in situ replicas): Pantocrator in pearl mandorla on vegetal throne, blessing, holding "Ego sum lux mundi" book; Alpha-Omega at shoulders; four angels with Evangelist symbols, six-winged seraphim; lower tier Virgin and apostles under foliate capitals; triumphal arch Lamb of God.Absidioles and arches show lesser murals. Altarpiece frontal (13th c., MNAC): St. Clement life/martyrdom. Preserved: crowned Christ Majesty (13th c.), Virgin and Child (13th c.), Crucifix (possibly Sant Joan de Boí), 11th c. reliquary, 12th c. presbytery bench (MNAC)
  • 42.5204210.8483292 Romanesque Church of Santa Maria de Taüll, Taüll. Santa Maria de Taüll is a Romanesque basilical church in the central square of Taüll village. Consecrated December 11, 1123—one day after Sant Climent de Taüll—by Bishop Ramon Guillem de Roda d'Isàvena, it shares medieval parochial duties with its neighbor. free. Santa Maria de Taüll on Wikipedia Santa Maria de Taüll (Q1278218) on Wikidata
History: Originating from a 1064 sale-exchange by Counts of Pallars Sobirà (Artau I, Llúcia) to Counts of Pallars Jussà (Ramon V, Valença), alongside Erill Castle. Likely built early 12th century over possible 11th-century predecessor. From the 18th century, it became Taüll's sole parish while Sant Climent served the cemetery; earlier, they co-shared. Major 18th-century Baroque reforms converted lateral naves to chapels, added barrel vault, transept dome with lantern, and sacristy replacing south absidiola. 1970s restoration reverted to 12th-century form: exposed cylindrical columns dividing naves, wooden two-slope roof. 1996 archaeological excavation uncovered plaza necropolis; 2007-2008 consolidation works.
Description: Three-nave basilica with semicircular triapsidal head, cylindrical columns separating naves. Smooth exterior walls except apses with Lombard arcades, lesenes, saw-tooth friezes. Square campanar tower (four floors, twin windows under arcades) rises over epistle nave, slightly tilted, with repeated decoration per face: blind arches on socle, varying windows upward, Lombard motifs on top three floors.
Interior and murals: Once fully mural-covered; originals (Epiphany in central apse with enthroned Virgin and Child in mandorla; Judgment on south/west walls) detached 1919-1923 to MNAC Barcelona, protecting from export threats. In situ replicas: central apse (1958-1960), south wall (2013). Recent restorations revealed new fragments. Preserved elements include altarpiece frontal (MNAC).
  • 42.50410.8024883 Romanesque Church of Sant Feliu de Barruera, Carrer de la esglesia, Barruera. Sa Su 10:00-14:00, daily in summer. It is a Romanesque church from the 11th-12th centuries in Barruera. Built in the 11th century like nearby churches such as Sant Climent de Taüll, Sant Feliu served the local Roman Catholic community in Vall de Boí. Its construction deviated from standard Vall de Boí plans, incorporating a unique layout with later Gothic and Baroque modifications. The single-nave church features two semicircular apses: the older 11th-century one with irregular stonework, blind arcades, and Lombard bands; the newer 12th-century apse uses precise ashlars. A square bell tower adjoins the south wall, with Romanesque lower levels and 16th-century upper additions. Gothic portal, porches, and chapels reflect later changes; 1970s restoration removed Baroque elements. Medieval iron lock preserved inside.Tranquil riverside setting with active cemetery enhances medieval feel. Open to public; guided tours via Romanesque Centre. €2. • 42.4978890.7861114 Romanesque Church of Santa Maria de Cardet, Cardet. Santa Maria de Cardet is the Romanesque parish church in the village of Cardet.Documented indirectly through 11th-12th century references to Vall de Boí settlements, the church likely postdates early village formation. Its Romanesque structure dates to the early 13th century, linked to Lavaix Monastery ownership. Reforms aligned with Vall de Boí's major consecrations (e.g., Taüll churches around 1123). Later additions include a sacristy, northern chapel, and 18th-century Baroque retable. This single-nave church with semicircular apse adapts to sloped terrain via a semi-basement level, forming a crypt under the presbytery with barrel vault and central window. Exterior features Lombard arcades, continuous lesenes, and saw-tooth friezes on the elevated apse. West facade has a porch-sheltered portal with incised chrismon and cross, plus a two-eyed bell gable. Interior shows heavy transformations: plastered nave, wooden choir loft, Baroque retable hiding apse details. Notable Romanesque remnants include a 13th-century painted altarpiece frontal (Maiestas Mariae with Nativity scenes) and beam at MNAC Barcelona. Medieval furnishings like baptismal font, ironwork, and 18th-19th century items (e.g., processional lantern) enrich the site. €2. • 42.4721110.7726265 Romanesque Church of Santa Maria de Cóll (Assumpció de Cóll), Cóll. Santa Maria de Cóll, now dedicated to the Assumption, is the Romanesque parish church in the village of Cóll. Possibly linked to a Benedictine monastery and Santa Maria d'Alaó, a slate inscription confirms its 1110 consecration. 1970s restoration by Dirección General de Bellas Artes rebuilt the roof and added a concrete perimeter wall to prevent cracks. This unitary 12th-century Romanesque church has a single nave with barrel vault divided into three sections by transverse arches, one supported by semicylindrical pilasters with simple capitals. The eastern semicircular apse features a quarter-sphere vault. Santa Maria, Cóll on Wikipedia Santa Maria de Cóll (Q11682913) on Wikidata
Exterior: drum apse with Lombard blind arcades (no lesenes), large regular ashlars, saw-tooth friezes, and sculpted corbels (human head, bull/cow).Northern chapel and southern bell tower (ground floor as chapel) create a Latin cross-like plan.
Western facade: twin-column portal with historiated/vegetal capitals, checkered tympanum, and standout sculpted chrismon with doves, human heads (one with hunting horn).
Gothic choir loft, spiral stair, paired altars (modern), bull's-eye windows, graded south window. Medieval door ironwork; Romanesque painted frontal at Episcopal Museum of Vic.
  • 42.4981780.8207456 Romanesque Church of the Nativity of Durro, Durro. Sa 16:00-19:00, daily on summer 16:00-19:00. La Nativitat de Durro (Nativitat de la Mare de Déu) is the Romanesque parish church in Durro village.Built slightly later than most Vall de Boí churches, likely mid-12th century, it shows influences from Santa Maria d'Alaó (Sopeira). €2. La Nativitat de Durro on Wikipedia la Nativitat de Durro (Q977148) on Wikidata
The nave vault dates to around the 16th century; the original semicircular apse was replaced by a trapezoidal sacristy in the 18th century. The porch links stylistically to Sant Romà de Casós and Sant Climent d'Iran, probably late 12th century. Restorations occurred in 1983 (roof), 1984 (bell tower), and 2000-2003 (overall). This large single-nave church, long and narrow, originally ended in a semicircular apse (now dismantled). Barrel vault (slightly pointed) divides into four sections by transverse arches on wall pilasters. Northeast square bell tower, modified later, lacks the valley's slender proportions; features Lombard arcades and saw-tooth friezes internally and externally. A southern porch with arcades shelters the portal and leads to a transept replacing the apse area. Western facade has double-splayed windows; south door under porch with graded arches, columns, capitals, checkered archivolts, and a prominent low-relief chrismon (XP monogram with doves, ox/lion, florals) dated mid-13th century. Uniform ashlar masonry in horizontal courses.
Interior: Gothic additions include two ogival-vaulted chapels (Roser and Sant Crist altars, 17th-18th c.), south arcade with Sant Antoni altar, and dome-covered Sant Joan chapel. Main 19th-century altar features Virgin, St. Joseph, St. Joachim. Choir bench with medieval lattice panels akin to Taüll. Exposed Nicodemus wooden sculpture (12th c., Descent group) from 2000s restoration; Virgin from same group at MNAC Barcelona (Christ figure burned 1936).

Description: Single-nave church with tri-lobed head (semicircular main apse, two lateral absidioles), forming a Latin cross plan. Original double-pitch roof; 12th-century barrel vault (later collapsed) supported by semi-pilasters and semi-columns. South wall retains traces of initial construction, insulation, and medieval rebuild. Main apse dismantled 1907-1911 for sacristy; north apse intact. 16th-century retable in apse, added choir; porch partly converted to chapel then storage.
Tower: valley's most harmonious, six stories with blind arcades, saw-tooth friezes, geminate windows maintaining proportions.
Interior Highlights:Wooden Descent from the Cross (13th c., replicas in situ; originals at MNAC Barcelona and Vic Episcopal Museum): seven figures—central Christ on cross, two thieves, grieving Virgin Mary, Nicodemus removing nails, Joseph of Arimathea, St. John. One of Catalonia's two nearly complete Romanesque descents (with Sant Joan de les Abadesses). No surviving Romanesque murals, possibly lost in medieval collapse/rebuild.
Sant Joan de Boí
Is the Romanesque parish church of Boí village, historical center of the Vall de Boí, and forms part of the UNESCO-listed Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí since 2000. Located at the western entrance to the village, it is one of the earliest churches in the valley’s first construction phase and closely related to Sant Climent and Santa Maria de Taüll in style and builders. Built as a three‑aisled basilica with wooden roofs and three semicircular apses, the church was heavily altered over time: a barrel vault was added over the central nave, the side aisles were converted into chapels, and later reforms transformed the interior into a single nave with lateral chapels. A square bell tower, decorated with Lombard blind arcades, was partially destroyed in the 13th century and later rebuilt, then restored in the 20th century along with a return to a double‑sloped wooden roof. Sant Joan is especially noted for its Romanesque mural cycle (now in the MNAC, with in situ copies), including scenes such as the Lapidation of Saint Stephen, jugglers, and bestiary motifs that illustrate didactic and moral themes for medieval villagers. Declared a historic‑artistic monument in 1962 and fully restored in the 1970s, it now offers one of the clearest impressions of how these early 11th‑century Vall de Boí churches used to look.
  • 42.49510.8114979 Romanesque Church of Sant Quirc de Durro (Access via good track from Durro (30 min walk).). Sant Quirc de Durro is a Romanesque chapel perched southwest of Durro village in Vall de Boí municipality (Alta Ribagorça, Lleida, Catalonia). Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí, it dates to the 12th century and offers panoramic valley views from 1,500m elevation. Sant Quirc de Durro on Wikipedia Sant Quirc de Durro (Q3056759) on Wikidata
History:Erected in the 12th century, the hermitage underwent 17th-18th century reforms: barrel vault addition, wall plastering, Baroque altarpiece, and a two-eyed bell gable. A 1996 restoration removed a nave overhang and installed a replica altar frontal depicting martyrs Sant Quirc (child) and Santa Julita (mother), with originals at MNAC Barcelona (acquired 1923).
Description: Simple single-nave structure with semicircular apse preceded by presbyterial arch; barrel-vaulted nave with built-in benches ends at elevated presbytery. Limited light via central apse slit, east bull's-eye, west opening. South portal: plain semicircular arch with rough voussoirs. Medium/large well-cut stones in regular horizontal courses. Architectural parallels to Sant Climent d'Iran and Sant Martí de Llesp.

Other religious places

[edit]

Some of the following religious buildings are just ruins, but they were included to show the huge amount of churches in such an isolated valley.

  • 42.4771720.79006710 Ruins of Romanesque Church of Sant Llorenç de Saraís. is the old Romanesque parish church of the abandoned village of Saraís. Given its state, in ruins, it did not enter the catalogue of historical and artistic monuments of the valley, nor the more recent UNESCO World Heritage Site. It belongs to the municipal district of Vall de Boí, within the old district of Durro, in Alta Ribagorça. Of the Romanesque church, only a fragment of the apse remains, inserted in another later building that is now a stable for cattle. It is a work of the 11th century, with a simple but careful structure. It is the base of the bell tower, preserved up to about 2 m high, with a width of 1.5 m. It is very likely that the rest of the church was used to build, in modern times, the church that is right next to it. Sant Llorenç de Saraís (Q11947176) on Wikidata
  • 42.52960.81577211 Ruins of Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol d'Erill la Vall, les Bordes d'Erill. It is located in Les Bordes d'Erill, 1 km northwest of the town of Erill la Vall, and about 400 meters higher. Only a few rows of stones, partly hanging, are preserved, which clearly outline the apse and part of the nave. It could be a church with a single nave with a single apse, covered with wooden beams. It is a work of popular Romanesque tradition, but very late. It may be from the late 12th century or even later. Sant Cristòfol d'Erill la Vall (Q18006703) on Wikidata
  • 42.5261190.83423412 Ruins of Romanesque Church of Sant Pere de Boí, Camí de les Roquetes. The church of Sant Pere de Boí was a Romanesque chapel in the town of Boí, belonging to the municipal district of Vall de Boí, and within the old district of Barruera. It does not belong to the group of Romanesque churches in Vall de Boí declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because it is only a few ruins. It is located north of the town of Boí, in the place still called Sant Pere, about 300 meters away. You can get there by a rural road that goes from the northern end of the town towards the north-northeast, and climbs up to the place where there is a modern stone. Only one angle of the construction can be seen, with a few regular rows of small and medium-sized ashlars, well squared. It must have been a church with a single nave, with a semicircular apse to the east, covered with wooden beams. It must have been from the 12th century. Sant Pere de Boí (Q11947308) on Wikidata OSM directions
  • 42.5191050.84922513 Ruins of Romanesque Church of Sant Martí de Taüll. It is located in the southeastern part of the center of the old town of Taüll, halfway between Santa Maria and Sant Climent de Taüll. It may have been the original parish church, before the construction of the other two. This church, or its remains, were partly collapsed by a landslide in the 19th century, and the nave was transformed into a school, so it was completely transformed and disfigured. Around 1970, two of its apses came to light again (the northern one is completely lost). Sant Martí de Taüll (Q11947211) on Wikidata
Church of Sant Quirc de Taüll
  • 42.51360.85281114 Romanesque Church of Sant Quirc de Taüll (Sant Quirze de Taüll). It is a simple Romanesque hermitage southwest of Pla de l'Ermita village. At 1,607m, it overlooks Taüll valley from a glacial esplanade, accessible via a short marked path.Single-nave structure with slate double-pitched roof over wooden trusses, topped by a lower conical apse vault. South portal features a rustic semicircular arch on imposts with raised extrados. Built on large irregular glacial rocks; walls mix irregular dressed stones, suggesting phased construction (apse possibly earlier).Interior: lateral stone bench, slab nave floor, rocky presbytery, northwest font. Traces of a blocked north arcade hint at a lost side chapel. Dated late 11th-early 13th century due to isolation and sparse Lombard features. Local lore links it to "encantaires" (enchanting witches), symbolizing Christianity's clash with pagan traditions. Sant Quirc de Taüll (Q3056755) on Wikidata
Sant Salvador de Barruera
  • 42.50750.79371715 Romanesque Church of Sant Salvador de Barruera (it can be reached in an hour and a half of steep climb, along a path that follows the Sant Salvador ravine, from the village of Barruera). Ot was rebuilt, as it was in ruins. It is located northwest of the village of Barruera, on a slope of the Serrat de les Costes, at 1,524 m alt., that is, 400 m above the head of the village. There is no documentation of this church, from any period. Only the construction allows us to date it to the Romanesque period. It is a temple with a single nave, covered with wooden beams, and with a semicircular apse on the east side. It has a door on the south wall and a gabled bell tower (with a window without a bell) on the western wall. It is a rustic work from the end of the 12th century, Sant Salvador de Barruera (Q18007363) on Wikidata

Falles in Erill la Vall 2024, Vall de Boi, LLeida
  • The Fallas:
    • The Fallas festival lights up Vall de Boí's summer nights with ancient fire rituals tied to the solstice, purification, and agrarian cycles. Young villagers (falleros) craft massive pine torches—two-meter resinous trunks bound with wire—or single-piece rantiners, igniting them at high mountain "lighthouses" visible from below.
    • Shoulder-high, the blazing procession snakes down zigzag paths like a fiery river, reaching village squares for communal bonfires. Dances erupt around the flames, blending mysticism with revelry that lasts till dawn. Each hamlet hosts its own: Durro , Boí , Barruera, Erill la Vall, Taüll , Pla de l'Ermita.
    • Originally Fallas happen on June 23rd (saint john eve), but lately every village takes a different date, so more tourists can attend.
    • UNESCO recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage ( "Summer Solstice Fire Festivals in the Pyrenees". It unites 63 Pyrenean locales across Catalonia, Aragon, France, and Andorra—warding evil, honoring sun gods, ensuring bountiful harvests. In Boí Valley's Romanesque heartland, Fallas fuses pagan roots with Christian saints' feasts, drawing crowds to its primal energy amid Aigüestortes peaks and UNESCO churches. Summer solstice fire festivals in the Pyrenees (Q21044497) on Wikidata)
  • Barrueras fair (Fira de barruera). Late September
  • Shepherd's Cheese Fair. Late August.
  • La Pila de Taüll. On Taüll's third Sunday in July, the Dance of Sant Isidre unfolds: youths encircle the saint, grabbing his "garllà" cake as he fends them with his staff. This sparks La Pila—a three-tier human tower in the square. The top man greets four directions, then dances inverted to music. Legend recalls drought-stricken Taüll folk praying to Isidre, who arrived with wine and cake—snatched by unrecognized hungry lads.
  • Ball Pla in Taüll & Durro: During Taüll and Durro's main village festivals, locals perform the Ball Pla. Mixed pairs—married man with single woman, single man with married woman—line up single file, advancing as women spin gracefully. The formation fans out across the square, couples side by side, women twirling amid accelerating rhythms. Pairs realign and circle the plaza's edge, blending tradition with communal joy in this lively Pyrenean celebration.
