AUGENTIC and DGSN Cameroon launches a new online platform for ID card Pre-enrollment

The General Delegation for National Security (DGSN) of Cameroon, in partnership with Augentic, officially launched an online pre-enrollment platform for National Identity Cards (NIC). This initiative marks a significant modernization of the ID card issuance process in the country. This initiative, introduced on February 17, 2025, allows citizens to pre-register for their ID cards online, with physical enrollment set to begin on February 24, 2025.
Overview of the New ID Card System

- Online Pre-Registration: The process starts at idcam.cm, where users select their preferred language (French or English) and provide an email address or phone number to receive a validation code. This code is necessary to proceed with the application.
- Filling Out the Application: After validating the code, applicants fill out an information form that includes both mandatory and optional fields. Following this, they will be directed to payment options, which include mobile payment methods like MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money.
- Physical Enrollment: Once the pre-registration is complete, applicants can schedule an appointment for biometric data collection at designated centers. The entire process is designed to ensure that applicants receive their new ID cards within a maximum of 48 hours after physical enrollment.
Key Features of the New ID Cards
- Biometric Security: The new ID cards are biometric, incorporating ten fingerprints for enhanced security and identity verification. This technology aims to combat identity theft effectively.
- Digital Services Access: Holders of these new cards will have secure access to electronic services, including e-government platforms, facilitated by strong electronic authentication through a digital certificate issued by the card authority.
- Increased Production Capacity: The government plans to improve production facilities for ID cards significantly. This includes constructing additional enrollment centers across all ten regional capitals in Cameroon to accommodate a higher volume of applications
The introduction of this new ID card system in Cameroon represents a significant advancement in the country’s identification processes, promising faster service and enhanced security through biometric technology. Citizens are encouraged to utilize the online pre-registration platform at idcam.cm to take advantage of this improved system.
Benefits of the System
- Faster Issuance: The new infrastructure and processes reduce wait times from months to a maximum of 48 hours.
- Improved Accessibility: The online platform eliminates long queues and logistical challenges previously faced by applicants.
- Enhanced Security: Biometric features ensure greater protection against identity fraud.
This initiative reflects Cameroon’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient public service delivery while addressing longstanding issues with ID card issuance delays.
