    Understand

    [edit]

The small neighborhood of Fenals d'Aro, which had only 113 inhabitants at the beginning of the 20th century, developed during the tourist boom of the 1960s, and in 1962, it changed its name to the current one, Platja d'Aro. It has about 32 hotels, 1,600 apartments, and three campgrounds, which have often altered the landscape.

The first seaside line features several tall buildings (for example, a 1969 regulation allowed construction up to 58 meters in height).

It is an important center for commerce and daytime and nighttime leisure on the Costa Brava. The town boasts more than two kilometers of beach and a set of coves that complement its landscape.
