Palamós is a town in Costa Brava. It has several beaches with good infrastructure. It has a big port for small cruises.

[edit]The nearest airports are in Girona (GRO IATA) 43 km (27 mi) and Barcelona (BCN IATA) 130 km (81 mi).
From Girona airport take the bus to Girona and then the bus to Palafrugell which stops in Palamós.
From Barcelona Airport there is a bus to Palamós (2 hr 45 min).
By train
[edit]Palamós does not have a train connection. The closest train station is Caldes de Malavella 35 km (22 mi), but it's probably better go to Girona 47 km (29 mi) and there take the bus to Palamós (1 hr 30 min).

- 3 Palamós lighthouse (Far de Palamós), Carrer de l'Ametlla de Mar. It entered service on September 1, 1865 and has of a hexagonal prismatic tower with a gray dome. It has had an electrical network since 1917 and in 1975 its structure was renovated due to cracks that had developed, mainly as a result of the bombings suffered during the civil war of 1936-39.
- 4 Sant Esteve castle (Castell de Sant Esteve) (It is accessed from a path that leaves from the beach of La Fosca.). It is a castle on a cliff between the beach of La Fosca and the cove of S'Alguer. Only some tower bases and some walls are preserved. The castle was built on a Roman villa which, in turn, was probably built on an Iberian settlement. It is first mentioned in 1063 in a parchment document that is preserved in the archives of the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. During the Middle Ages it was owned by different feudal lords. During the War of the Remences it was demolished almost in its entirety and was abandoned until in the 16th-17th centuries it was converted into a farmhouse

[edit]- 1 Sant Antoni beach (Platja de Sant Antoni). It is a bathing area protected by three breakwaters parallel to the coastline and two perpendicular ones. It is flanked by a promenade where there are numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and other shops. Oriented to the south-southeast, it is 1,700 m long and has an average width of 35 m, made up of medium-grained sand and the slope of entry into the water is not very pronounced. The seabed is sandy, with some rocky areas. It has all kinds of services, and includes ramps and amphibious chairs for people with reduced mobility and a children's play area.
- 2 Platja d'es Monestrí. Facing south, it is 272 m long and has an average width of 31 m, made up of medium-grained sand, with a gentle slope into the water. The seabed is sandy, except in the right area of the beach, delimited by the Cabrera point. It is flanked by a promenade, where there are numerous shops and restaurants. It is a long tree-lined avenue that extends towards Palamós, on the left, and towards Sant Antoni beach, on the right. It has toilets, showers, lifeguard and first aid points, pedalo rental, a couple of bars, sun loungers and parasols for hire, parking and a children's play area. It also has ramps and amphibious chairs for people with reduced mobility.
- 3 Platja Gran de Palamós. It is a fine-sand beach facing south-southwest and is located in an urban area with a high degree of occupancy in summer. It is 990 metres long and has an average width of 55 metres, with a very steep entrance to the water. The beach offers various services to bathers, such as showers, bars and huts, parasol and skate rental, lifeguard flags, bins, children's areas, lifeguard station, toilets. In addition, it is adapted for the disabled and people in wheelchairs.
- 4 Cala del Morro del Vedell. It is 90 m long and has an average width of 16 m, made up of coarse sand, gravel and pebbles. The slope into the water is not very steep and the seabed is rocky. It is usually not very frequented. It does not have any services.
- 5 Cala Margarida (sota Ca la Margarida). It is flanked by a row of old fishermen's huts, now converted into summer houses. Oriented to the south-southeast, it is 107 m long and 7 m wide, formed by coarse sand mixed with stones and the bottom is rocky.
- 6 Platja de la Fosca. It has a promenade with beautiful summer houses from the early 20th century. The beach is divided in two by the Roca Fosca, a large black rock that juts out into the sea and gives its name to the beach. Oriented to the east-southeast, it has a total length of 497 m and an average width of 40 m, made up of fine, medium, coarse sand and gravel. The slope into the sea is not very steep, and the seabed is sandy. It has all kinds of services, a first aid station, surveillance and rental of equipment for recreational and aquatic activities. It has access ramps for people with reduced mobility and a car park.
- 7 Platja de Castell (Cala Castell). It is one of the last undeveloped beaches on the Costa Brava. It is part of the Castell-Cap Roig natural interest area, which covers 100 hectares, and is surrounded by pine trees. The beach is made up of medium and fine sand. The beach is 304 metres long and 65 metres wide. The entrance to the sea is not very steep and the seabed is sandy. It has a bar, sunbed and parasol rental, kayaking school and lifeguard service. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility, as it has ramps and access walkways.
