Sleep test
[edit]I don't think anyone lives here, and there's really nothing worth seeing. Should we perhaps redirect to Diomede Islands and move any information from here to there? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:55, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- What about Little Diomede, then? That's a populated island. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:20, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- I think we can keep that one. Although even then, I'm not sure if there's much to do or really much of interest. I'd say Little Diomede is just about good enough to not merge and redirect. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:36, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Proposal to merge to Diomede Islands
[edit]Big Diomede, as a Russian military facility, is literally inaccessible. This article can never become anything more than an outline, and the little information that is here could be summarized and moved to Diomede Islands. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 14:30, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- I don't know; it seems odd to cover islands from two opposing countries (or at least Russia is a threat to the U.S.) in one article. I get the logic of it, though. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:26, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- I think Little Diomede should still have its own article, as people live there and it isn't closed to the public. Diomede Islands would just be a brief summary with a link to the American island for more info. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 15:33, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- OK, that seems reasonable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:37, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

- Merge, per proposal. Ground Zero (talk) 17:33, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. It makes sense to have an article on the place, even if we cannot say much about it. If we merge, then Big D can no longer be breadcrumbed to Chukotka as it now is & should be.
- Diomede Islands is & should remain a Wikivoyage:Extraregion since it does not fit our hierarchy. Moving Big D there solves nothing, since we have no more to say about the island group than we do about Big D. Pashley (talk) 09:11, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
- But the opposite of "we have no more to say about the island group than we do about Big D" is the case — there is content to write about Little Diomede, which is accessible and has a permanent population, and nothing to write about Big Diomede.
- And why are we concerned about an article not existing in the breadcrumb hierarchy, when it's closed to the public and impossible to visit? --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 14:12, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- No. We have almost nothing to say about the islands as a group & writing about Little D does not change that. Some things worth saying apply to Big D only (Russian, restricted, military, breadcrumb). Pashley (talk) 01:13, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
- But why do those things justify a Wikivoyage article? At most, they justify a one-liner listing. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 22:33, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- I'd say just being able to breadcrumb it correctly & link from Next-to-impossible destinations justify keeping it. Beyond that, it is a real place & there are currently six WV links to the article plus wikidata Q958528 which has two WV links (en & zh) plus a couple of dozen to various languages on WP. Also, there may be links elsewhere that we should not break. Pashley (talk) 22:58, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

- I support the merge. This article fails the sleep test for the most part. //shb (t | c | m) 23:33, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
