Understand

[edit]

In the section, ‘Understand’ I have quoted from R.C.Dutt, The Aboriginal Element in the Population of Bengal, Calcutta Review, 1882, quoted by L.S.S. O’Malley, ICS, in his Bengal District Gazetteers, Bankura, first published in 1908,reprinted in 1995 by the Government of West Bengal, page 21. The rest of material in the section ‘understand’ is also adapted from the same book, pages 21-41. The reprint of O’Malleys book is available in the market. I have also used the material earlier in the articles entitled History of Bankura district and Culture of Bankura district in Wikipedia. - Chandan Guha (talk) 02:19, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the citations. Is there any quoting from those Wikipedia articles, or only summarizing/paraphrasing? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:32, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I have quoted from O'Malley's book and mentioned the use of the same in the Wikipedia articles. The Wikipedia articles are based on O'Malley and other sources. Here I have used only O'Malley. I have adjusted the material to suit Wikivoyage. Cheers - Chandan Guha (talk) 03:16, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good enough for me. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:39, 17 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Dear Chandan Guha I agree with Ikan Kekek. The understand section looks encyclopedic and is more suitable for Wikipedia than Wikivoyage. If both of you agree I can rewrite this section. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 04:40, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Mr. Guha's last edit on this site was on September 20, 2019, so he might not be monitoring this board. I would of course give you my blessing to edit as you see fit. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:44, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Ikan Kekek for your reply. Mr. Guha is a very trusted editor, and very active in Wikipedia. Lets give him a couple of days time. If he doesn't respond, I will go ahead with the edit. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 05:00, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm not suggesting rushing. Your course of action is prudent. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:57, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Rangan Dutta is a very knowledgeable editor. I shall be happy if he improves this portion. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 06:08, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Chandan Guha I am a regular follower of your work in Wikipedia and I would love to see more edits from you in Wikivoyage. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 08:28, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ek ratna, pancha ratna and naba ratna

    [edit]

Dear Ikan Kekek ek ratna, pancha ratna and naba ratna are not proper nouns but different styles of Bengal temple architecture. Ek = one, pancha = five and naba = nine and ratna = pinnacle hence they are respectively one pinnacle, five pinnacle and nine pinnacle temples. Hope I have made it clear. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 02:58, 18 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I understand now. I'd hyphenate that: "one-pinnacle", etc. Then it would be clear. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:38, 18 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Disambiguator

    [edit]

The disambiguator "West Bengal" is not suitable for this article as there's another Bishnupur in Southeast Bengal (although there's no Wikivoyage article for that Bishnupur and might be covered as part of Kolkata later). Therefore, the disambiguator "Rarh" should be used for this Bishnupur. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 13:08, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
