Hello! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for the edits to Dalian and Nanjing.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

Do you need help placing the photo of Sun Yat-sen mausoleum in an article? If so, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 08:22, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Wow, I tip my hat for you sir! excellent work on cleaning up and formating those Midwest articles, it's much appreciated, and badly needed. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 16:34, 22 October 2009 (EDT)
One quick note - if there aren't a lot of hotels in a town, or if the article doesn't include any other hotel listings, then chain hotel listings are completely fine. It's valuable to let travelers know that there are at least one or two places to stay in a town. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:12, 22 October 2009 (EDT)
Adding a bit more to the previous comment, provided there is actually some information provided about the hotel that isn't marketing crap, listings for chain hotels are generally fine. If I'm traveling to another major city I'd generally prefer to stay in a place I've heard of unless there's a really good non-chain option available. Project:Accomodation listings contains the site guidelines for hotel listings, and at present there is no policy against chains (with the caveat that marketing language is not appreciated per Project:Don't tout). -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:33, 22 October 2009 (EDT)
Yeah, I can see your point, both of you. I guess I just apply what was applied to restaurants and grocery chains: if someone can pick up a phone book and get the same sort of info., the content may not prove too helpful. But I can appreciate the fact you're saying leaving them on there and just getting rid of the mktg lang....I'll take a look at your references. Thx!(WT-en) Zepppep 20:37, 22 October 2009 (EDT)

    Edits not showing up

    [edit]

Not to worry, you should just need to refresh your browser window. Wikivoyage has a page-caching problem that we've been trying to fix for some time... --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:04, 26 October 2009 (EDT)

You are a lifesaver! Yes, that appeared to be the problem...unfortunately by the time the cache issue was resolved I edited it for the SECOND time! ARGH! At least the edits to the Sleep section I worked on are there, otherwise I was going to have to do those a SECOND time also...many thanks, Pete! (WT-en) Zepppep 14:21, 26 October 2009 (EDT)

    Ann Arbor

    [edit]

Wait! We are supposed to have price ranges for restaurant listings, not average prices! Road abbreviations also should not include periods, although that is much easier to correct (using ctrl-H find & replace in MS notepad). When in doubt, checking a recent star article to see how it's formatted can be a good guide as to how to polish things up correctly—I recommend looking at Washington, D.C./Georgetown.

But make no mistake, Ann Arbor does need a big clean up to hold on to its star status—thank you for taking on the hard work! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:14, 18 November 2009 (EST)

Re: abbreviation periods: say the word and I'll make that correction. I don't want to do it and cause an annoying edit conflict for you. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:15, 18 November 2009 (EST)
The trick is that everything else you did in those painstaking edits was extremely useful ;) If you are up to it, you could go back and restore the price ranges one by one by hand [1]. Otherwise, a revert will be necessary, but will undo the rest of your hard formatting work! The abbreviations, on the other hand, are really easy to fix. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:19, 19 November 2009 (EST)

    Great work

    [edit]

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for all the formatting work you've been doing—our articles need it! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 01:12, 2 December 2009 (EST)

Thanks from me as well for the cleanup you're doing on the Hawaii articles - they get messy quickly, so getting them in shape is hugely helpful. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 12:52, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

    Great work on London articles

    [edit]

Really well done on the formatting work on various London articles. Now that the major re-organisation is done, this is just what we need. For the areas I know well, I might make a few changes to some of your categorisations and please don't take those the wrong way. In Soho for example some of the sub-section distinctions are very hard to make (regional cuisine, pubs versus bars). Thanks again for all the work and please keep it up! If ever anything is not clear, please do drop a note on my talk page. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:14, 16 December 2009 (EST)

    Abbreviations

    [edit]

There's no need to abbreviate every measurement, particularly when it would look awkward in prose text (listings tend to be stricter). Times given in minutes aren't necessarily abbreviated at all, and even normally-abbreviated units like length can be written out in full if it's more natural in context. - (WT-en) D. London cotm

    [edit]

Since you were so instrumental in making the London cotm our most successful collaboration of all time, I thought you might like to look over the results. Thanks again for your help! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:13, 1 January 2010 (EST)

Ah, I think we've decided to hold off on the next CotM until February—see Project:Collaboration of the month#Burnout. Great to hear that you're up and ready to go with another, though!
In the meantime, there's plenty of good mos work to do around the site—I'd recommend looking at Category:Articles needing attention. The length of the list there might seem a little daunting, but you do a great job with the mos work, so the site would benefit a lot if you give those articles some attention! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:24, 7 January 2010 (EST)
If you're up for formatting/proofing work, Antigua Guatemala has been languishing on the dotm page, waiting only for someone to clean it up... ;) --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:02, 13 January 2010 (EST)

    Consulates

    [edit]

I just wanted to offer a huge thank you for adding all these consulate listings to our American cities. I didn't even know some of these places (Albuquerque, for instance) even had consulates! So a huge thank you! (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 16:17, 13 September 2010 (EDT)
