Folks often do not say things they should, so I will: it is great to have you back and firing at Wikivoyage. Onto business.... how are you fixed for finishing up the B&H map? I seem to remember you saying you had computer issues which were preventing the use of Inkscape? I bumped the discussion about your region scheme and Vidimian is in agreement with it. That's a good sign as he seems to have a good grasp of that tricky region.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 10:36, 24 April 2010 (EDT)

The very best of luck with that Stefan. I will try to get around to the B&H map soon. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:04, 1 May 2010 (EDT)
Bosnia map done. Would be grateful if you gave it the once over as it uses your scheme.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 13:05, 3 May 2010 (EDT)

    Reverted

    [edit]

Hi, Why did you delete the new listings for MP3 tours of Australia? They weren't spam, were extremely relevant, and were no different to the other non-government external links right next to them (e.g. The Rocks Ghost Tours). Please at least have the courtesy to leave a comment in your edits or you simply entice people to undo your reversion.

If external links are such a no-no then Wikivoyage should remove the Add Listing button or at least the URL field therein. You're sending mixed messages.

We had days worth of unpatrolled edits, so I was moving a bit fast, sorry about that. But I'm afraid this is a pretty clear cut issue since our external links policy clearly states: "Avoid linking to secondary sources - for example, avoid links to: ... Other travel guides, including audio guides, audio tours, virtual tours and webcams" --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 02:17, 22 June 2010 (EDT)

    Reverted

    [edit]

Hi, I'm wondering why you deleted a listing from the Marrakech tours section May 26th, after having deleted a bunch of the listings last October? I tried to start a discussion on the issue last October (Talk:Marrakech), but I didn't really get a response as to why some were deleted but not others. I'm the one who originally added the Berber Travel Adventures listing and it very easily meets the criteria in Project:Activity_listings#Tour_listings. I've been on the tours personally, and there is no doubt it constitutes a value added activity. No traveler could do this on his/her own. Thanks. -- (WT-en) Spmenic 23:54, 22 June 2010 (EDT)

    Spam user accounts

    Category between Outline and Usable?

    [edit]

Hi Stefan, I've been contributing to Wikivoyage for a while (and finally decided to get an account to track my changes). One thing that's been a little frustrating for me is I often go to areas that were just outline articles, and fill them in so that they're at least usable, for example Liwa Oasis and Puerto Suarez. I don't want to upgrade them to "Usable Articles" because in comparison to, say, Amsterdam or Aspen there's hardly any information, but for a traveller like me, there's absolutely enough to get there and get started.

I was wondering if you and some other senior editors might consider adding a new category between Outline and Usable, so that I can feel less guilty about upgrading my articles into the ranks of Amsterdam and such, but still feel good about having fleshed out the article. Something like "Basic Articles" would be nice...

This is an ego thing, I guess. Let me know what you think. (WT-en) Amornoguerra 00:06, 16 September 2010 (EDT)

Amsterdam appears to be guide-quality. If it's still at usable, it's probably because one or more districts are not yet up to usable, which is a requirement for guide status. Aspen is properly usable because its listings are very basic. I agree that the two articles you mentioned need more information to be considered "usable" -- specifically, some restaurant listings. However, while they're very good for outline articles, I'm not sure we need to subdivide the article statuses further. (WT-en) LtPowers 10:39, 16 September 2010 (EDT)

    Broken svg

    [edit]

Hi Sermann. I wonder if you could check this file for me. I've been translating maps into Portuguese, and this one appears to be broken-- won't open in Inkscape after I download it. Also, I wonder why it has those thin white lines across it. Anyway, please let me know when you have time... Thanks! - (WT-en) Texugo 11:02, 20 September 2010 (EDT)

The file is unfixable i'm afraid, several people - including myself has tried to salvage it, but no luck. Shouldn't be hard making a new one though - with correct labeling - since there are several good svg sources available on wikipedia as far as I remember --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 16:44, 20 September 2010 (EDT)
That is quite unfortunate. I guess your original svg file is long gone huh. Would you happen to have the svg from which you produced this map? (WT-en) Texugo 11:05, 21 September 2010 (EDT)
I was able to get it to render properly by converting from ANSI to UTF-8. I've re-uploaded to shared in the hopes that this fixes the issues, but if this doesn't work please delete the latest revision. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 11:25, 21 September 2010 (EDT)

    Portobelo

    [edit]

Why did you remove Pirates Cove from the sleep section. Check out their web page before you assume they're a tour operator. It is a hotel first. Please put back. Thanks (WT-en) Captjack 10:02, 22 September 2010 (EDT)

Hi Captjack! First, please place new entries on talk pages always at the bottom and not in the middle of the page because that makes conversation much easier. Second, we are based on consensus and i would have reverted that listing too. The main reasons are that it is misleading and quite touty written in a marketing language which is frowned up here. Also Wikivoyage is continiously changing so you have no right that listings will stay permanently. If you want this listing then rewrite it in accordance with our policies. (WT-en) jan 10:28, 22 September 2010 (EDT)
    Ok, thanks Jan. I'll rewrite it.(WT-en) Captjack 11:11, 22 September 2010 (EDT)
Indeed the influx of business hype is reaching a level where its impossible to keep up, the last patrols rounds I've done 90% of edits have been promotional hypebole like this - excuse me for not being more corteous, but we seem to have drowned in our on success and wikivoyage is being slowly put to its death, unless we get more patrollers, since all our guides have started overflowing with this stuff, pretty soon it will start turning people off one of the internets greatest websites.... sigh! --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 18:33, 22 September 2010 (EDT)

    Missing svg

    [edit]

Hi again. Do you have the svg file for this beautiful map? I couldn't find one on Shared: and I'd love to translate it into Portuguese. Thanks. (WT-en) Texugo 11:36, 23 September 2010 (EDT)

    DotM Khartoum

    [edit]

Hi Stefan, last year you nomiated Khartoum as Dotm which is interesting because Africa is quite often neglected. Do you intend to finalise the article or shall we slush pile it for Dotm? Best regards, (WT-en) jan 03:06, 11 October 2010 (EDT)

Hi Stefan. I dont see your signature around as much these days as before, so assume you are taking a break. Maybe travelling? Anyway, I have finally got Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay to a stage where there are enough good sub-articles (dive sites) that I think it can be nominated for star, and since you suggested the nomination way back when I started, I take the liberty to personally advise you that it is now in the pipeline, waiting for reviews and comments. :-) Cheers, (WT-en) Peter (Southwood) Talk 03:05, 15 October 2010 (EDT)

    [edit]

Regarding this edit, you can also purge the topic to rebuild breadcrumbs - just click on the history tab and then change the "action" parameter in the URL to "purge". Example: http://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Zealand&action=purge. Note that after purging you might need to click on the "Article" tab to see the article with the newly-generated breadcrumbs. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 19:50, 17 February 2011 (EST)

Thanks for the heads up, know how to purge, but didn't know it worked with breadcrumbs issues --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 20:10, 17 February 2011 (EST)

    Pitcairn talk page

    [edit]

Please do not revert my Pitcairn Talk page edits (deletions) - I have a non-molestation court order for this - (# 11-1) and after investigating the Wikivoyage website for two hours I can not find anywhere to deliver it - so I did the edits myself. Please give me an email address to serve this court order.

There is no email address to deliver a court order to, so there. If you insist http://www.internetbrands.com/contact-us/ is the place to take any legal complaints, as they are the only legal entity involved with wikivoyage. Until then the correct approach is to counter the argument of the opposing side; one of the guiding principles of a wiki is that all discussions are kept and archived, same as on wikipedia, and honestly i'm a bit provoked by anyone trying to side step this by way of legal threats. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 05:04, 9 March 2011 (EST)

    time formats revisited

    [edit]

Given your interest in the time formats discussion and/or the star nomination that was almost sidelined over this matter, I thought I should let you know I've reopened the discussion. Hopefully (unlikely perhaps, but hopefully) we can reach a more definitive conclusion on this matter. (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 00:45, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

    [edit]

Hi Sertmann! Thanks for your hard work fixing breadcrumb. I have re-run the algorithm on a fresh wikivoyage dump so your help would be greatly appreciated :-) http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User:Nicolas1981/Syntax_checks/no-breadcrumb Thanks a lot! Swept in from the pub

Since {{unsigned|Sertmann}} gives this result: This template must be substituted. - what do we use instead these days?

And also, what is the policy with inline wikipedia article links since the merge? Sertmann (talk) 05:41, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK so fund the answer to the first question by going to the actual template, still not sure about the other questionSertmann (talk) 05:43, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's the same: Wikivoyage:Links to Wikipedia. I revert their additions with a gentle plea to write about stuff here too ;) --Peter Talk 06:29, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
    The correct template is {{subst:unsigned|username/IP}}. AHeneen (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Lake Erie Islands

    [edit]

Was this edit an error? Put-in-Bay is a town on South Bass Island while the article is about a group of islands off of Northwest Ohio, so I think a merge would be inappropriate. -- Ryan • (talk) • 03:54, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Er, if they are unrelated, then something seems really messed up with the hiearachy? or am I indeed missing something Sertmann (talk) 04:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The hierarchy is Northwest OhioLake Erie IslandsPut-in-Bay. There is actually an article for South Bass Island (the island the town of Put-in-Bay is on), but since there is very little to say about the island other than what is in the town we converted that to a redirect to Put-in-Bay a long time ago. -- Ryan • (talk) • 04:15, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Still not sure I follow, but in any case I reacted to an annonymous user who removed a merge tag without an explanation, I really don't have any knowledge about the place that would warrant an opinion, other than the infamous troll that runs hotels there, makes most things suspcious. If you feel it was appropriate to remove the tag, I completely trust your judgement. Sertmann (talk) 04:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The same user had actually added the tag in the previous revision [1] - I think it was just a mistake, so I'll remove it. Thanks for your vigilance - I suspect that guy will have put Put-in-Bay on a lot of people's watchlists :) -- Ryan • (talk) • 04:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

    UserMerge

    [edit]

Hey, it looks like you haven't had your old account contributions merged into your new one. Would you like me to take care of that? --Peter Talk 06:27, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

You might want to check through special:allpages/User:Sertmann to see if anything else needs fixing up, but otherwise it is done. --Peter Talk 19:11, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Your Couchsurfing profile

    [edit]

Just a quick heads up: I stumbled upon your Couchsurfing profile ( https://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=4FBUCR0 ) and noticed that you didn't mention your Wikivoyage involvement but endorsed another travel site. It might be intentional, but I'm guessing you have just forgotten to update your profile. Mads.bahrt (talk) 21:09, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Missing SVG for Central Tokyo map

    [edit]

    Hello Sertmann!

    I noticed a typo in https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/File:Central_Tokyo_map.png

I want to fix it, but could not find the SVG. Is it available somewhere?

    Administrator status (Official Notice)

    [edit]
A similar message was also sent via e-mail.

Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage administrator. As you may be aware, our Wikivoyage:Administrators policy indicates that administrators who have not edited on the English Wikivoyage in over two years should have their administrator flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.

As such, we will be removing your administrator flag on 7 November 2018. Should you wish to retain your status, simply come on back and make an edit! That resets the clock. And if you ever decide to return to Wikivoyage as an active editor, your administrator flag can be restored by request.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.
