To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. - Thanks for adding content to the Redding article.
- All the best,
Using Wikipedia
[edit]Adamant, I use WP articles quite a bit for bolstering the Understand sections of articles -- it is quite okay to do this.
We can use text from Wikipedia, but we have to provide attribution. This can be done by putting a link to the specific version of the Wikipedia article in the edit summary, and putting a {{Wikipedia}} tag on the article's talk page. I've done this for you on the Medford article, so you can see how it's done.
It's generally a good idea to also edit/re-write the text a bit to
- make sure it reads like a travel guide article instead of an encyclopedia article, and
- improve our search engine optimization rankings. What this means is that the more the WV article is a copy of the WP article, the lower search engines will rank the WV article in their listings.
