Greeting

[edit]

Hello, Ahmadabugosh! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Pashley (talk) 14:12, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Don't tout

[edit]

Hello, Ahmadabugosh! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.

If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage.

It's not OK to link one eSIM company. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:58, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Ikan Kekek, thanks for reaching out! My intention was definitely not to break any rules.
I do understand, however, I don't think it's fair to only delete the mention of the brand I added, when you keep the others. I understand deleting all the companies mentioned, but why only mine in the case where there is a list of options on this particular page? If anything it's more fair to include everyone. Ahmadabugosh (talk) 05:10, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's absolutely fair. You are listing only one company, so you are a tout and all your listings and links get deleted. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:17, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek Ok I want to play by the rules. So what circumstances could I add a provider? Would I be able to if I list others that are in the same vertical? And what about cases where there is already a list of others? You don't allow adding to a pre-existing list? Ahmadabugosh (talk) 05:26, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Have you read the links you've been given? I think not. Businesses are often welcome to add listings when they're in the interest of readers, but you dishonestly declined to disclose your self-interest and we had to figure it out. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:37, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek Have you heard the expression ""Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"? I'm new to the community and didn't follow the rules, that's on me, but I wasn't acting dishonestly and even though I did break the rules, it wasn't my intention, and I'm sorry that I did.
I just added the disclosure on my profile. Ahmadabugosh (talk) 05:50, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Consider, though, that it's not necessarily obvious that your company needs to be linked for the good of travelers. It might be quite sufficient to just mention that there are eSIM companies. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:12, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes true, but then again you could say that about any service. Ahmadabugosh (talk) 10:35, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
We say it about many. No car rental agencies should be listed in cities with more than I think the guideline is 10, and we don't ordinarily list hairdressers, carwashes, hardware stores, or ordinary travel agencies, to name a few. See Wikivoyage:Listings. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:06, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
