Welcome
[edit]
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian, then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub, as a reply below or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing! Also read WV:Tone, 1st person prose, wycsi, WV:Goals and non-goals. Thanks again for contributing. Ibaman (talk) 10:32, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
@Cuicuizan: thank you for the improvements you have made to this article. Here are some ways you can make it better:
- the first paragraph of an article should explain why a reader would want to visit a place. What makes it interesting, beyond just that it is a resort town?
- We know that the places listed are in Zibo City, Shandong Province, China, because the article is called "Zibo". In English Wikivoyage, it is wrong to include the city name in addresses in listings, unless the listing is in a different city (i.e., not in Zibo).
- In China articles, we always use the 24-hour clock (09:00-18:00), not the 12-hour clock (9AM-5PM). See the box at the top of Talk:China.
- We write prices as "¥1,000", not "CNY1,000" or "RMB1,000".
- We always include the country code in front of phone numbers, i.e., +86
Please make these changes. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 21:40, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Cuicuizan: are you going to correct these errors, or are you expecting someone else to correct them for you? (Wikivoyage doesn't work that way.) If you don't want to correct your mistakes, I can just remove your edits. Ground Zero (talk) 02:53, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- The problematic parts of your questions 2-5 were fixed when I saw the message, but I didn't understand what the first one meant, so I'm not sure how to change it. Cuicuizan (talk) 07:02, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- So, if you have a friend who's thinking of visiting Zibo, what would you want them to know about the city? Another approach is, look at the first paragraph in any star-rated article. You can see a list at Category:Star articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:44, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'll be revising that part within the day, hopefully you can check the formatting for me if you have time for any problems, thank you so much for answering! Cuicuizan (talk) 01:43, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. The lede paragraph is not bad, but it does feel a bit listy. Could you summarize more? Consider the lede of Chicago, a star article. Chicago has great museums, but none of them are mentioned by name in the lede. Albuquerque is another example, and you can look at ledes from other star articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:28, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Shaoxing also has a good lede, and note how its "Understand" section adds a few more details. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:35, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've added the opening section as you suggested, thank you very much! Cuicuizan (talk) 06:31, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I made a bit of a followup edit and left a comment here. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:13, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the revision, I will get a better understanding of how to compose the perfect article! Cuicuizan (talk) 08:37, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

- Do have a look at Wikivoyage:Words to avoid. "Perfect" is on that list and really should be avoided almost all the time. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:01, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek My IP address has been automatically blocked. I am currently in a class with the user Wuwenhao19960507, and we are all working on our Wikivoyage assignments. This might be the reason why we have shared the same IP address. However, I am not entirely sure why my account was blocked. Could you please assist me in resolving this issue? - I'll unblock his account, but it's unfortunate that you are sharing an IP address with him, because I'll have to see if there's a way to block only his account if necessary. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:40, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- It really helped me a lot. Thank you so much! Cuicuizan (talk) 09:17, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

@Cuicuizan: You have not fixed #2. We know that the places listed are in Zibo City, Shandong Province, China, because the article is called "Zibo". In English Wikivoyage, it is wrong to include the city name in addresses in listings, unless the listing is in a different city (i.e., not in Zibo). Please fix this error.
