Listing editor
[edit]Thanks for all of your recent edits. Re: Special:Diff/2209091/2911584, if there was a URL pattern that was unsupported by the listing editor that should have been, let me know and it should be easy enough to implement a fix. -- Ryan • (talk) • 07:52, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Ryan, thank you for your kind note. I have just now tried putting various URL patterns into the listing editor, without problems. My problem was with the listing template: when I inserted URLs without "http://", I ran into the issue described in Template talk:Listing#Making the code more user friendly. So, maybe I should try to use the listing editor more often. But there are times, as with my recent edit to San José (Costa Rica), when it is a lot easier to cut and paste directly into a template. The template needs to be fixed, eventually, IMO, but remembering to include a well-formed URL is an easy workaround.
- Since I have your attention, though, can you tell me where I might make an unrelated suggestion regarding the listing editor? I would really like it if a Preview button could be added. This could eliminate a lot of test edits and minor changes, such as the ones I made to San Jose (California) on 24 December, before I finally got everything right.
- Finally, thanks for huge effort you put into this project. Peter Chastain (talk) 09:32, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Wikivoyage:Listing editor#Feature requests or the Pub are probably the best places to propose listing editor changes. User:Andyrom75 and I are the only ones actively working on the listing editor at this time so it might take a while before that request got much attention, but I think it would be doable. -- Ryan • (talk) • 18:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- A reminder pop-up that highlight the need of the "http://" is very easy and quick to implement, while the preview it would take more time. However, since changes "are free" :-P the preview is something that has a low priority in comparison with other needed upgrade to the editor. PS within 30 minutes I'll be officially in holiday with low/no connectivity, but maybe try to remind it to me or Ryan after middle January. Cheers, --Andyrom75 (talk) 04:29, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

While I appreciate the work you put into creating the Clipper card page (and it's always good to see someone looking to improve our public transit info!), I'm afraid that might be too specific and narrow a topic to devote an entire page to. Per Wikivoyage:What is an article?, transport systems are actually specifically referred to as an example of what should generally not get their own articles. We prefer that that sort of info be incorporated into the destination guides, to keep it nice and condensed, easy-to-find, and in a place where there's more eyes on that info (so it's more likely that it'll be kept up-to-date). - Seishun 18 Ticket is an article that covers a similar subject matter, so there is some precedent for this type of article, but it's also true that most editors won't be so thorough in documenting a transit info option and we could end up with a lot of virtually useless articles if we open the door too wide to this sort of article. What about broadening the scope of the Clipper card article to something like "Bay Area transportation", which could provide an overview of transportation options throughout the Bay Area and then be linked from the "Get in" section of most Bay area city articles? -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:46, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- PerryPlanet and Ryan, thanks for the feedback. I would like to continue this discussion on the article's talk page.
Listing editor bug
[edit]Sorry for your troubles with the listing editor on the Interstate 5 article - you hit the "pipe & equals sign bug" listed under Wikivoyage:Listing editor#Bugs and feedback. I've replaced the icon files in the listings with tempates, which should be a decent workaround for the issue for now. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:12, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ryan, not a problem. I was submitting a report just as your message came across. I'm leaving it there, in case you need it for another test case. Thanks! Peter Chastain (talk) 16:21, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Can't save listing
[edit]Trying to submit something from the listing editor, I get this message: "Error: An unknown error has been encountered while attempting to save the listing, please try again: invalidsection" Not very informative. Is there some place where I can post a screen shot to have someone look at it? Thanks. Peter Chastain (talk) 17:41, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Peter Chastain, which article were you trying to edit? WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:44, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- I was trying to add an Eat listing to San José (Costa Rica). Thanks. Peter Chastain (talk) 02:28, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
