User talk:Sanjorgepinho Voyage Tips and guide

You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

    Hello, Sanjorgepinho! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

Thanks for your edits to the Setúbal guide. Please note that the name of the town, if it's the same as the article title, is omitted in addresses on this site. Also, have a look at welcome, business owners and the don't tout guidelines if they're relevant to you (to some extent, don't tout is relevant to all of us, because even happy customers can sound like they're advertising a place).

    Best,

    Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:33, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, and thanks for your edits so far. I'd like to reiterate a point already stated here: per policy (see "address" on the linked page) we consider it improper to include the name of the city in the address of a listing. When adding listings, you can save yourself the effort of writing it in, and also save others the effort of removing it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. Thanks again, ARR8 (talk | contribs) 05:02, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

    The "alt" tab in listings

    [edit]

Hi, Sanjorgepinho. Thanks as always for updating articles and adding content! But please note that the "alt" tab is for genuine alternate names, such as the names of monuments in local languages (especially when they're in different alphabets or character sets, as in Chinese) or well-known former names. Please never repeat the name of anyplace, nor a merely shortened name, in "alt". Thank you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:45, 16 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm really sorry to do this, but I've blocked your posting privileges for 1 day for edit warring. If you post that you've read the above post, understand it, will stop edit warring and will do your best to avoid putting anything but truly alternate names in "alt" tabs, I'll be happy to end the block sooner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:06, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also, see Wikivoyage:Listings for reference. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:07, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Ikan Kekek. I'm new to wikivoyage but came with a desire to contribute ... I believe that you are tired of correcting the same mistakes and that novices like me leave you without patience ... If it were me who was in your place, I would probably see if the user contributions would have benefited or not the wikivoyage. After that I sent him a message asking why he was repeating the same mistake and would not have acted like you ... But this is my way of thinking. I respect those who think differently from me. By the way, I'm telling you that I was repeating the wikivoyage error because it is giving error every time I tried to record. If you can, try changing a value on this page and then record to see the error it gives me. I do not know if this is where I should answer you but as I told you I'm new here ... —The preceding comment was added by Sanjorgepinho (talkcontribs)

You're not that new here, and not edit warring is basic to all Wikis - they can't function if a single individual insists on having it their way, regardless of what the site guidelines, agreed to by consensus, are or how many times their edit has been reverted. I don't know what you mean by an error, but surely, you don't have to put anything in the "alt" tab. I'll happily unblock you, but please commit to not edit warring in the future. By the way, repeating part of a hotel's name in "alt" does not benefit the reader, which is why it's usually not done here except by touters. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:08, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Please try to enter, for example, a phone number and record and then see the error that it gives —The preceding comment was added by Sanjorgepinho (talkcontribs)
OK. By the way, on talk pages, please sign your username by typing 4 tildes in a row at the end of each post.

Looks like it worked. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:23, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
It does not work for me. It gives the following error message: "Error: An unknown error has been encountered while attempting to save the listing, please try again: invalidsection"Sanjorgepinho (talk) 01:41, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
That sucks. However, I'm not that technically savvy and wouldn't be able to help you with this. I'd suggest copying exactly this error message to the Travellers' pub while noting what browser you were using while trying to add a phone number to a listing and what operating system your computer or phone uses. Thank you.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 01:59, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Douro Litoral edits

    [edit]

looking at the region definition at Northern Portugal, Peso da Régua belongs under the region Douro Litoral. Or is this region map wrong? Can you explain your edit] and in which region Peso da Régua should be in? Same goes for Lamego? --Traveler100 (talk) 16:36, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is wrong. The northern region is typified in the wikidata at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27662. Peso da Régua e Lamego belongs to the Douro sub-region in Northern Portugal, and is typified in https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1252756 Sanjorgepinho (talk) 16:56, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Article

    [edit]

When creating an article, please start by following the directions at Wikivoyage:Article skeleton templates. Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:56, 19 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'm already trying to fix it. The problem is that the structure of "regions" in Portugal is all wrong in wikivoyage. Provinces (extinguished in 1954) are confused with subregions (structured according to the European Union) in which Portugal is organized today.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 06:21, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Please remember that Wikivoyage does not always follow official government structures. Often does but what is more important to organize most useful for people visiting the area. Please go ahead and suggest changes, local knowledge is always appreciated. If a major change always good to mention it on the talk page of the region so others understand what is going on. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:40, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK thank you. As soon as I can, I'll begin to structure the data.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 07:51, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Great, but please explain the changes you are doing first at Talk:Northern Portugal so no one by incorrectly deletes your changes thinking it is vandalism or a mistake. --Traveler100 (talk) 10:57, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Traveler100: I only see two edits by this user on the Northern Portugal page, an edit followed by a reversion. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:31, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Traveler100: Thanks for your alerts. The problem is not on the Northern Portugal page, but in the criterion defined to choose the regions in Portugal. For example, when you redirected the Douro to the Douro Litoral, it compares to saying that Northern Ireland does not exist ... So I will transport this subject to Talk:Portugal in order to establish a single and valid criterion for the entire Portuguese territorySanjorgepinho (talk) 16:35, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Baião and Ribadouro

    [edit]
    • You just wrote "This hotel is in the municipality of Baião as you can see in the address". What I can see in the map is that Ribadouro and Baião are about 10 km apart. I take your word in good faith that it's the same municipality, though. Ibaman (talk) 17:06, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for taking my word in good faith! But if you want to confirm the boundaries of the municipality of Baião, you can see this data in the Baião Wikidata ID: Q804064. If you prefer you can see this same data in OpenStreetMap relation ID: 3966517.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 22:59, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy

    [edit]
    • Hello again. You have been making adjustments on the geographical structure of Portugal, Douro, it's a region, it's a province, etc, etc, etc. Please do not do it without proposing and achieving consensus on the article's talk pages first. That's how Wikivoyage works. Thank you Ibaman (talk) 13:19, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok, but at the same time being Douro and Douro Litoral can not be. You will have to choose between Douro and Douro Litoral. Example: "Europe > Iberia > Portugal > Northern Portugal > Douro Litoral" and "Douro is a subregion in Northern Portugal."Sanjorgepinho (talk) 13:34, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
All right. If and when you go ahead with this change, please, please with sugar on top, justify your actions at Talk:Douro Litoral BEFORE you make them. That's how Wikivoyage works. Thank you Ibaman (talk) 14:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Request for assistance

    [edit]

I am hoping you can help sort out some incorrect information on Wikipedia related to articles about w:Castle Monforte, both in English and Portuguese. In particular w:Castle of Monforte is stating in Monforte, Alto Alentejo but it looks like it is actually in Chaves Municipality, Vila Real District. --Traveler100 (talk) 07:42, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's ok. I will make the necessary corrections in wikidata and wikipedia. When I finish, I give you news.̴̴Sanjorgepinho (talk) 15:13, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Some how you have lost a whole castle on Wikipedia. The one in Chaves has been overwritten by the one in Monforte.--Traveler100 (talk) 19:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
    Don't worry I haven't created it yet. The 2 were mixed.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 20:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
On Wikipedia in English, the article about the castle of Monforte was created with reference to the castle of Chaves. On October 9, 2016, the user @Zeorymer made an edit to the page exploding with the article, introducing references to Monforte Castle in Monforte. From that date, everything went wrong, generating a series of associated errors. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Castle_of_Monforte_(Monforte)&oldid=743460571
So I will create another page about The Castle of Monforte in Chaves with the existing data before the 9th of October 2016.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 21:27, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

    Quad Bike

    [edit]

Olá meu caro. Please don't link tour agencies like this. WV:External links#What not to link to is clear about it. Obrigado pela atenção. Ibaman (talk) 14:41, 21 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Olá Ibaman! I was reading the link you are referring to and I did not understand what is wrong. There is only one company in Pinhão that rents 4x4 bikes. It is not a tour, it is just renting the 4x4 bikes. You can check this out on their website. There is not even competition. If I remove the link from their website, can the rest remain? Um abraço.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 15:54, 21 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
yeah, I wrote this specifically because I opened the link to check. It's textbook WV:Tour in my opinion. Ibaman (talk) 16:11, 21 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Welcome back!

    [edit]

Olá, @Sanjorgepinho. I'm glad to have someone from Portugal actively editing again. You have an understanding and perspective that I, as a foreigner, lack. Let's Wikivoyage:Plunge forward to collaborate on building a superb Portugal travel guide. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 02:06, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Olá @Nelson Ricardo, yes, you can count on me. The only problem is that my english is not good.Sanjorgepinho (talk) 16:18, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
There's many ways to contribute to a wiki without knowing a foreign language. Even just simply adding listings doesn't take too much effort with language skills. After all, I'm a sysop in a project that I don't even know the language quite well (but apparently there's no other editor on any WMF project who knows the tiniest bit of the language). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:30, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000, I already told @Sanjorgepinho on another page that his English seems better than my português. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 01:38, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Probably didn't notice that. ps, this is the advice Andyrom75 gave me on the Italian Wikivoyage. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:41, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000, Thank you for the advice. Sanjorgepinho (talk) 01:45, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

    New article checklist

    [edit]

Olá, @Sanjorgepinho. I have created a new article checklist at Wikivoyage:Portugal_Expedition#New_article_checklist. These are not mandatory steps, but are meant to help guide us in creating quality Portugal articles. If you have any ideas, feel free to edit the checklist (this is a wiki, after all). Obrigado. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 01:22, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Olá, @Nelson Ricardo, I'll see, thanks. Sanjorgepinho (talk) 01:42, 8 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
