Copying from Wikitravel

[edit]

    Hello, TessBoucher! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

Also, please read Wikivoyage:Wikivoyage and Wikitravel. I'm sorry to be a killjoy, but copying from Wikitravel is not allowed, and the background in that last link will explain why, and why I therefore deleted the El Camino Del Colibri y Cielo. But that's irrespective of the usefulness of an article about that trail. If you would like to restart an article about it without copying anything from that other site, please do, and thanks!

    All the best,

HI I see you deleted the page I was working on so I'm getting I must have violated some rule before I got it fixed up properly. I've read the "tips for new contributors" and cannot figure out what I've done wrong though. Could you help? I'm a volunteer for our local town trying to get some of the tourist sites up on the different wiki sites. According to Gemini I could copy content from wikitravel.org and then edit it on your site. But you deleted it before I got it cleaned up. Can you explain how I should do this? I would really appreciate the help. TessBoucher (talk) 19:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I laid out the problem above in my 2nd paragraph, so please read my message and click the links in it, particularly that last one. Please feel free to do the edit on your computer before you upload something in your own words and Wikivoyage style here. A dead giveaway that you were copying from Wikitravel was your use of listing tags, which Wikivoyage hasn't used for a very long time. See Wikivoyage:Listings: we use listing templates.
By the way, who or what is Gemini? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:21, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK got it. I thought I could edit on your site to make it different so thanks for explaining. TessBoucher (talk) 19:48, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing. Very sorry for the inconvenience, but you can see why we are being so careful, considering the history between the two sites. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:35, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
