"Learn" section

[edit]

The Wikivoyage standard is that "Learn" listings have to be for institutions that offer courses lasting about 2 weeks or less for non-matriculated students. Do any of the ones currently listed do that? If not, at most, perhaps a brief summary might be acceptable, without listings. Or perhaps some of the universities might merit listings in "See" (if they're notable sights) or "Do" (if they offer interesting performances are lectures open to the public). Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:01, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'd say none of them likely qualify and just follows a tendency in Asia articles to list every single university. If the institution does offer a 4 week Korean course (for example) then that course would have a dedicated web page, but I don't see that here so remove. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 20:20, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Any further information? User:Pkh409 and User:Gong Ju-young, any input? Please comment within 48 hours or so. Thanks a lot. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:32, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I will move universities to "See" section.--Gong Ju-young (talk) 01:47, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't think any of the Universities qualify as 'See' either, but please include if you know of some reason why a traveler would want to visit. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:28, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I added the listings below for the time being: --Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:46, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

In some Chinese articles I have listed universities under Work, because the main reason they might be of interest to foreign travellers is that they have jobs for English teachers. Pashley (talk) 19:51, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hospitals

[edit]

How helpful is it to list them? Or, to ask the question another way, what's the purpose for listing them? Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:54, 12 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I want to know how to make a helpful list. Please advise me how to make a format of listing.--Gong Ju-young (talk) 08:26, 13 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
But I'm not even sure we should list these hospitals at all. What information about them would help the visitor to Incheon? The 3 listed hospitals currently all have the same description. Are these the only good hospitals in town, such that a conscious person in an ambulance should ask to be taken to one of them? Or is there something else people should know? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:04, 13 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Shaping up nicely

[edit]

I just read through this guide and did some copy editing. It definitely could use more polish, but it's already quite a nice article and absolutely usable. If I were spending a week in Seoul, I believe I could use this article to help myself plan a very enjoyable day trip in Incheon. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:55, 13 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

It is looking good. Obvious areas to look at are:
# The region map is rather ugly, and not sure it helps a great deal
# Listing all the metro stations is not needed
# The bar list is very old, and I suspect most of them don't operate any more. It would be great for someone with local knowledge to clean up.

Metro station list

[edit]

There is a list of every Metro station in the article, which is not our convention.

Can you please reduce to a handful of the most notable stations for visitors? The new map layer will have improved transport overlays over time as well. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 03:23, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:Pkh409 I really appreciate all the effort you have made on this article over the past weeks.
Would you like to look at reducing the station list? Otherwise I'll give it a go myself in a few days. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 19:56, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Swept in from the pub

Hi, i'm improving incheon page. I think it is close to guide status. Can someone make it a guide? or tell me what else to improve??

Thank you.

--Pkh409 (talk) 01:57, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it's coming closer to Guide status but some improvements need to be made first:
  • The "Stay safe" section needs to be filled out.
  • The listings in the "Eat" and "Sleep" sections need to be broken down by price: "Budget", "Mid-range", and "Splurge" (see Wikivoyage:Big city article template for more about this).
  • Many of the listings in the "See", "Eat", and "Sleep" sections need descriptions. It's not enough to only include the address, phone number, website, and price.
  • It's fine to include a little bit of information about the subway system, but we try to avoid long lists on this site, so it's better not to name every single station as you did in the "Get in" section.
Keep up the good work!
-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 03:40, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Also please:
  • Include latitude/longitude for all listings
  • Move information like "It is located in songdo international city" in "directions, it must not be in "description".
  • All listings must have a description, saying for instance what is special with this hotel or whether it is old, has a pool, or this kind of things.
Thanks a lot! Syced (talk) 04:40, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Capitalization

[edit]

Is songdo really written in all lowercase letters? What are the Korean conventions on capitalization when Korean is transliterated into Roman lettering? What about a name like this: "Incheon national university station". Only Incheon is capitalized? I'm confused and need to know what the standards are, or I can't confidently edit this page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:25, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

South Korea has a well established romanization system w:Revised_Romanization_of_Korean, of which includes the capitalization of proper nouns. It should be Songdo.
"Incheon National University Station" would typically be all capitalized, although its spelling here is not particularly problematic. I would change. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 19:53, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Andrew. What about Taeung-jon Hall, Chondung-sa Temple? Is that correct? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:57, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hypens are a bit of a problem for me. According to official rules they are optional, meaning that official spellings could use both and a quick google shows both styles used on road signs. In the case of "Chondung-sa" , the "sa" suffix actually means temple and is very important for asking directions. My own preference would be to always use Chondungsa as the name and leave the hyphen out. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 22:40, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
So therefore, Chondungsa Temple is a redundancy. Does "jon" mean hall, too? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:33, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I would also write it without the hyphen, because I think that's the variant I've seen most. And yes, "Jon" seems to mean Hall.
It's always problematic when the full name in the original language already includes a description ("palace", "mountain", "lake" etc.). ϒpsilon (talk) 06:02, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it can be helpful. Chondungsa refers to the temple of Chondung, and temples are often located a good distance away up a mountain in an isolated spot from the settlement with which they are associated. For example you could tell a Korean taxi driver "I want to go to the temple in Chondung" and end up down town, or you could say "I want to go to Chondungsa" and be sure they will take you up the mountain where you want to go. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:54, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's not the issue. The issue is that, since "sa" means temple, "Chondungsa Temple" is a redundant expression. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:10, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is semantically redundant however I'd still contend that it is useful for the traveler to say "Chondungsa Temple". Andrewssi2 (talk) 06:39, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK, if it serves the traveler, then so be it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:18, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is very useful

[edit]

Incheon is very famous city in South Korea. Anyone who visits Korea from abroad will visit Incheon once(because of Incheon international airport). So Incheon is interesting for people who visit Korea and there would be many complicated information about here. But you totlaize Incheon's information very well. Every topic of this page conclude useful, various contents, and it will be find clearly. I rate this page very highly.--June Hee Lee (talk) 07:01, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm not seeing it on the page, unless I missed it somehow. It's apparently on he.wikivoyage and it.wikivoyage, or on Wikidata for listings there. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:08, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Overlap with Songdo

[edit]

The Incheon article includes many listings in Songdo. Should they be moved to that article from here, or should that article be merged with Incheon? Ground Zero (talk) 15:07, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have moved the Songdo listings to talk:Songdo. I don't know if these places are still in business. Ground Zero (talk) 16:49, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
