User talk:Arianit Voyage Tips and guide

You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

    Hello! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you would ever like some help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub or on my user talk page.

As a Wikipedian, you may notice some differences in the style of our articles. These include:

    • "External links" → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.

More importantly, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, whereas Wikivoyage is a travel guide. So while there are certainly overlaps in content, the imperatives of the sites are different. Wikipedia is dedicated to thorough documentation to the extent possible without original research; Wikivoyage is dedicated to serving the interest of the traveller by providing travel-related information and relies greatly on first-hand information from travellers and residents of many parts of the world.

I have not had the pleasure of visiting the Rugova Mountains, but I can see that they are very worthy of a Wikivoyage article, and I'm glad you started one. However, a Wikivoyage article about them needs to be quite different from w:Rugova Mountains, partly because the more we copy other articles, the less Google will consider our articles unique and worth indexing, but more so because travellers don't need to know things like the Latin names of species of plants and animals that live in an area. What they do need are things like complete (or as complete as possible) entries for hotels and a map of the park.

Please have a look at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a Wikivoyage article for a park that is currently featured on the front page, and Valle de Cocora, an article about a protected area that was previously featured, for some pointers on Wikivoyage-style park guides. If you'd like additional recommendations of articles to look at or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. You can just reply to this message and sign your reply with 4 tildes in a row at the end (~~~~).

Hi, thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement and suggested improvements. I will be revising this article further. I have also invited the authors of that Wikipedia article to help. I look forward to contributing here on Kosovo-related articles. Cheers! --Arianit (talk) 08:57, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Excellent, and thank you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:00, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

    Page banners

    [edit]

Hello Arianit, welcome and thanks for your contributions! I have corrected one of your edits in the Kukës guide, namely cropping the page banner. The reason is we have very particular rules for page banners and 7:1 aspect ratio is one of them. I think the banner looks ok also after the edit. Happy voyaging! Thanks! --Arianit (talk) 17:20, 12 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

    Tourist information in Gjakova

    [edit]

Hi, Arianit. What happened here? Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:12, 4 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ikan Kekek:. it has moved and another company is running it now. I need to visit them to fill it out. BTW, we're running an editathon on Kosovo articles this weekend and next. Thank you for keeping an eye. --Arianit (talk) 10:12, 4 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Have a great editathon! Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:58, 4 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

    Faleminderit shumë!

    [edit]

Thank you for helping to improve Wikivoyage's Albania and Kosovo articles. Your contributions will help readers who are thinking about travelling to Albania and Kosovo, and those who are planning trips there. I hope you can continue to help improve these articles. Ground Zero (talk) 10:29, 29 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ground Zero: thank you for being a welcoming wiki community and helping us along. I'm excited about the outcome. --Arianit (talk) 13:07, 29 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

    The event

    [edit]

Just popping in to say that the work that some of the contributors to the event that you organised are turning out great. Looking good, and I hope that this can significantly improve our coverage to Albania and Kosovo. I'm also sorry for reverting this edit with rollback. Galaktika123 had a username similar to a regular known banned editor on the site (known as Brendan or the Telstraman) who usually adds listings, and makes one or two edits per account (a good list of some of his accounts are here, but this is just about 0.01% of his accounts). Only thing is, he never reverts any of our edits so I knew it couldn't be him. And I apologise for that again.

Also, you can leave a message on my talk page if you need anything. Cheers, --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:51, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @SHB2000:, thanks for following and appreciating our work. Some of participants including Galaktika123 are new and their contributions could be uneven. We'll have another look at the end of the day tomorrow to make sure we have made positive changes. Cheers! --Arianit (talk) 12:03, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Nothing wrong with their changes. It's just that we seem to have a policy to revert that vandal's edits completely (unless they are typos). I've also run a copyvio check and they're not copyvio. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:07, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also, just an FYI. All of the contributors changes are positive :) Hope to looking for some more good ones, and hopefully I can use these when I go there (probably after 2025 when I do my northern and eastern Europe trip) --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:16, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi @SHB2000:, thank you very much for your support. We have completed the editathon now but some people will continue to make edits in the next few days. This is the Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group annual activity. We'll keep at it and hope to see you when you make it here. --Arianit (talk) 10:02, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :) Also, if you want, you can create the Albanian Wikivoyage at the incubator, although to say, that does take years to complete (I believe tr.voy was in there for about 8 years, and some others like Bahasa Indonesia seem to be still in the incubator).
