Welcome

[edit]

    Hello, Crann20! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

And than you for your contributions to Edinburgh related articles.

    Take care, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 10:40, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I just wanted to say that even though there was a lot of back and forth over the same text today, this edit of yours made a lot of sense, and got rid of most of the bloat. Hopefully, my subsequent edits improved it further. Welcome to Wikivoyage (and maybe fáilte too?); looking forward to seeing more of your contributions.--ThunderingTyphoons! Hi, thanks, yeah thanks. I am new to this. You seem very experienced, so I didn't barge in! It's good how it changed. Thanks that was collaborative Crann20 (talk) 19:36, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Yes, User:ThunderingTyphoons! is an admin here. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 10:08, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Crann20, let me add my welcome to you to Wikivoyage. It will be great to have more content added to Ireland articles. But please be respectful of other editors. Trying to exclude another editor from a discussion because you assume things about what they do or do not know is not a collaborative approach. It will lead to conflict, which we try to avoid as we'd like contributing to Wikivoyage to be an enjoyable pastime. Also, while we encourage contributors to be bold, when it comes to contentious issues (like Derry/Londonderry), discussing a change and reaching a consensus amongst interested editors before making the change is important to avoid edit wars and unpleasantness. I hope this helps, and I look forward to see more contributions from you. Ground Zero (talk) 13:04, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Using Londonderry/derry would be a Consensual approach to the naming of county and city. I did post in discussion too. Crann20 (talk) 13:08, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

    That is not consensus. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:13, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Making a unilateral change here is not consensual. We have a compromise already. If you think we should reconsider it, start a discussion, and get consensus before making a change. Also, that change replaced a functioning link to an article about county by a recline that leads nowhere. That does not help travellers. Ground Zero (talk) 13:14, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

What makes you assume that I don't understand things in Ireland?

    [edit]

Hi Crann20, I just wanted to ask you what's making you assume I don't understand Ireland. The approach of doing this is incompatible with a wiki, and things don't go well by trying to exclude an editor who's opposed to your opinion. And don't get me wrong, I appreciate your great contributions to Irish articles, I just wanted to politely tell you that excluding editors out isn't how a wiki works. That's all I'm asking you. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:09, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi sorry I dont understand how I excluded you. The name of the city county causes offence. I will respect editing and collaborating Crann20 (talk) 13:20, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is the phrase that SHB2000 (and I) object to: "Also you dont understand the problems in Ireland then". That makes it sounds like SHB2000's opinions don't matter. It is better to treat other contributors with respect, even if you disagree with them. Ground Zero (talk) 13:28, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
    Let's not get into a dispute like the litter bin dispute in Talk:Manilla (New South Wales) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:30, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Sorry if i have caused offence Crann20 (talk) 13:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
