To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. Nepal
[edit]- Thanks for all your edits to articles about Nepal. Much appreciated. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:50, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, good up-to-date info.
- Please don't change the currency notation away from our standard style, though: Talk:Pokhara#Manual_of_style --118.93nzp (talk) 22:42, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Oooops, sorry about that. I guess I need to read over some of the standards... :-) I'll fix that first chance I get. Yes, I just got back from 5 weeks in Nepal and wanted to add a few things while they are still kind of fresh in my memory. Dave.mcc (talk) 07:26, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- No worries, most people are bored to death by our MoS but, funnily enough it's the source of some of the biggest and longest disputes here.
- You're absolutely right about adding content while it's still fresh in your memory, Dave - I always mean to do that on the spot when I go somewhere, but usually I'm having too much fun (or misery) to fulfil my good intentions... --118.93nzp (talk) 07:31, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Would it be OK to indicate at the beginning of an article that all amounts are in such and such a currency unless otherwise noted? I think the MoS might have alluded to that if I could find the reference I think I saw... Some of these articles have many references to prices of things. I even question how often prices "are" mentioned given that they change (ie: increase) so quickly.... Dave.mcc (talk) 17:12, 2 December 2013 (UTC).
- I think each article is different and individual judgements have to be made. For our country article on Nepal, it should already be clarifying this in the "Buy" section. As a general rule, I think we should be clarifying any abbreviation on first mention if it is likely to be either ambiguous or widely unintelligible. It doesn't harm to give a date indication in brackets after particularly volatile prices, eh? --118.93nzp (talk) 08:06, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, by the way, for the editing help on the Nepal page. I'd like to get that page and others related to the country spruced up a bit and I'm still trying to get the hang of the writing style and layout conventions.Dave.mcc (talk) 17:08, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
Still working slowly through some edits to the Nepal page. I see under Get In that a number of airlines are mentioned. Other than changing the links to display the way they are supposed to display (ie: not the footnote style..), is such a list really necessary? There's an "exhaustive" list on the Kathmandu page. Would one place or the other be more appropriate for such a list and is such a long list needed? I'm a little uncertain how to proceed here Dave.mcc (talk) 16:53, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- My own view is that, while personally I wouldn't duplicate this information in different articles, when it's already there, I wouldn't bother to delete it either unless it makes the article much too long. The logical place to have "Get in by air" information is on the country article for Nepal although I appreciate that only Kathmandhu has the international connections. We do have a lot of editors interested in flying that may have very differing opinions, Dave... --118.93nzp (talk) 23:46, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- OK, well, you'll see that I revised that whole section. See if that looks usable. I did read in the MoS or somewhere that such lists really belonged with the city article and since there wasn't much in the Nepal page I just went ahead. What I have there pretty much reflects my experience there in Oct/Nov. Dave.mcc (talk) 01:35, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Dave. This itinerary article was just nominated for deletion, because until I made a minor edit just now, it hadn't been edited since 2008. Is this a trek you know something about? Would you like to rescue the article? If so, please make a comment at Votes for deletion and put in more content.
All the best,

Wales Coast Path
[edit]I've come across the exceptional work you've done for Offa's Dyke Path and wonder if you have any advice or time to give for creating something similar with the Wales Coast Path. If we get that done, there'll be a guide to hiking a path around the whole of the country - a world first! Cymrodor (talk) 13:08, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. I'd be interested in helping out with the Wales Coast Path page. Although I've been to Wales a couple of times, I have little first-hand information about that trail, or the Offa's Dyke Path so I just did lots of research. I have a few things coming up in the next few days but I'll take a look at it and see what I can start with. I'd be most appreciative of some local knowledge and input.
