To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Gizza (roam) 01:17, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! It's really cool to be a contributor and add in a few small tips I've found bags on my short time here in Melbourne! :) Edtau (talk) 04:33, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
Hello, Edtau! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.
If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage. Wikivoyage is no free advertisement space. wbo: a business is allowed only one listing, site-wide. Advertising your services on several articles at once qualifies as touting, yes. Thanks for understanding, Ibaman (talk) 14:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Ibaman! Thanks for your response. Let's go through these one by one:
- https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?diff=5055638 - Helicopters are a common, alternate method of transportation to road and rail. If you don't want a link to an actual helicopter service to the Blue Mountains, then we can remove it. But as a traveller I'd like to know there was a way to get somewhere in 45 mins instead of 4 hours by train.
- https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Melbourne&diff=5055648&oldid=5055278 - This is a genuine activity that you simply removed without explanation. If you wish to only have a business mentioned once, then leave one mention there. Why do you need to nuke everything, including the aerial photo over Melbourne?
- https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Hunter&diff=5055650&oldid=5017335 - Again, helicopters are a common and convenient method of transportation to the Hunter Valley and they only take 45 minutes, as opposed to 3.5 hours by car. If you don't wish for multiple links, that's fine. At least keep the method of transport there and the common destinations.
- https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Yarra_Valley&diff=5055646&oldid=4772046 - Again, you've nuked a perfectly valid listing and popular thing to do in the Yarra Valley. You've even left a random phone number in the listing which makes no sense.
- https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Sydney&diff=prev&oldid=4832766 - Another valid thing to do in Sydney nuked, despite other listings remaining intact. Forgive me if I've travelled to these each of these different places by helicopter often and wish to ensure more people know this is a comfortable and convenient option, not to mention a spectacular experience.
- If the only issue was that I linked multiple helicopter options in 3 different location, then by your policy of one link site wide, you would have maintained at least 1 of them, but instead everything is has been nuked, and with only a random phone number leftover.
- I enjoy contributing to online blogs and travel forums as I'm uniquely placed to give advice on travelling by air, but I've never faced so much resistance until now đ¤ˇââď¸ Edtau (talk) 17:07, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Where are you headquartered? Put a full listing in the article for that place and state your scope of operations there. If you're concerned that it could be reverted as touting, post the listing here for comment first. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:17, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
