Greeting

[edit]

Hello, Gamerboykarl! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Pashley (talk) 14:02, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yeah so I live in India I already edited the sports section and yes I have experience of Wikipedia. Thanks! Gamerboykarl (talk) 14:04, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Section headers

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your enthusiastic contributions. Note, though, that "Sports" is not a primary section header of any Wikivoyage article template. Where relevant, it should be a subsection with 3 equals signs on each side of the section title in the "Do" section. Thanks, and carry on.

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:25, 5 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Ok. Sometimes in "do" the sports topic is not mentioned so yeah I'll add it there. Gamerboykarl (talk) 10:13, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's fine, but could you please stick to covering cricket in places where it's a major sport? In U.S. cities, it is not more important than bocce or darts, or at least not significantly so. My opinion would be, if a sport does not have a dedicated venue, don't cover it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:16, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure but US had a cricket league. But ok. Gamerboykarl (talk) 10:25, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The U.S. has bowling and poker leagues, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:38, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok. But they are recently developing cricket in the US. But I understand your point. Gamerboykarl (talk) 15:43, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also, unless you specify where cricket can be viewed, it's pointless to mention. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:53, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sports content for Wikivoyage

[edit]

I've taken the liberty of reverting this edit of yours: it's too much detail for a top-level country article, plus the fact that the F1 race was halted for a couple of years during COVID is irrelevant to the traveller today.

Wikivoyage's sports coverage could use a ton of improvement, but I'd encourage you to try to view this from the traveller's point of view: concrete details (when? where? how to buy tickets? how to get there?) are the most useful information you can add. Asamboi (talk) 10:09, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please heed Asamboi's advice. A country article or a city article in Wikivoyage is not the place for historical information about sporting events. That information belongs I Wikipedia, not in a travel guide. Wikivoyage's dedicated articles on sports can also accommodate some historical information that is important to the sports in general. Ground Zero (talk) 10:44, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
ok. Gamerboykarl (talk) 11:24, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure. I will heed the adice and twist my angle to travellers point of view. Gamerboykarl (talk) 11:24, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
