    I like to travel too.

    Welcome

    [edit]

Hello! Thank you for your contributions. Welcome to Wikivoyage. I hope that you'll keep sharing information with fellow travellers through this project.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines, style, and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you need help, post a question in the Arrivals lounge.

We have a special page with information for Wikipedians who are new to Wikivoyage. In particular, I think you will be interested in this section of that page:

"Wikivoyage does not follow a strict encyclopedic "neutral point of view". Instead, our guiding mantra is "be fair". Fairness means that descriptions provide a balanced summary of the experiences of Wikivoyagers. For Wikivoyage, the traveller comes first; the needs and priorities of others—such as local residents, travel agents, or the local propaganda ministry—are given less weight."

@Ground Zero: Thank you. I'm just here because Wikipedia blocked me and I need to wait six months before I can be trusted again.--JTZegers (talk) 17:04, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've taken a look at your history on Wikipedia, and I hope that you have learned something from that unpleasant experience. It would be best if you learned some more about Wikivoyage before you do a whole lot of editing. As at Wikipedia, the admins here don't want to spend a lot of time monitoring you and fixing your mistakes while you learn. We have other stuff that we'd rather be doing.
To start with, do not view this as being just like Wikipedia. It isn't. This is a travel guide. So pictures of dead presidents really have no place here. A picture of a president's library, or former home (if it is a place travelers can visit) are relevant.
We generally don't want too many pictures in an article, because many readers will be accessing articles while they are traveling, and so a lot of pictures chews up data. So we don't need or want pictures of buses and trains in every article. Buses look pretty much the same everywhere, and most travelers will be able to identify the colors of a local bus when they are in the city in question. Is the city's transit unusual? Something that might draw visitors to the city? If so, then a picture might be appropriate. If it is an ordinary city bus, then no, it isn't. There are a lot more interesting things to see in a place like San Francisco. Ground Zero (talk) 18:38, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ground Zero: So the trains are fine but the buses all look the same so they aren't. Makes sense.--JTZegers (talk) 18:40, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well, I don't know if we really need the trains either. Are they unusual? Or do they just look like trains? Ground Zero (talk) 18:43, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ground Zero:They're unique depending on the city. But if you want to get rid of them, go ahead. I just thought it would make the article better, I'm just trying not to waste your time.--JTZegers (talk) 18:44, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ground Zero:Though, I do agree, there are much better things to do in San Fransisco.--JTZegers (talk) 19:05, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
There are a lot of smaller town articles in the NYC area that could do with some attention. Our big city articles are often very well developed, but smaller towns often have little in the way of description or pictures. Ground Zero (talk) 19:10, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ground Zero:So yeah, whoever put that PATH train in there (not me) should have known better. Sure, the big city articles are well-developed, but there is still room for improvement.--JTZegers (talk) 21:18, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
But you've made big improvements to Middletown (New Jersey) and Tuckahoe, which really needed some love. Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 00:52, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ground Zero: I have a discussion in the Long Island talk page if you are interested. Otherwise, you can mind your own business. JTZegers (talk) 17:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Welcome!

Hi, @JTZegers. Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thank you for your contributions. I've made a few edits. If you have any questions or concerns, we can discuss here. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 01:10, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

    simple.wikipedia

    [edit]

Since I can't comment on Wikipedia, simplewiki should also get you a better chance of getting back into the English Wikipedia. There's a long term good user (User:Darubrub), who is also blocked on enwiki, and does not have talk page access. This is just a suggestion, and of course, feel free to ignore. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:43, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SHB2000:, despite apparently gravedancing, I’ve reported another user for vandalism there and made improvement to that Wikipedia. However, Darubrub was blocked for apparent sockpuppetry and lost TPA for failing to accept the standard offer, and I was blocked for disruptive editing and lost TPA for violating restrictions and insolence. Thanks for the suggestion. JTZegers (talk) 19:37, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Westchester County

    [edit]

User:JTZegers, thanks for your edits to the White Plains article and others! I didn't realize (or maybe forgot) that the Galleria Mall had closed. Had you typed "closed" in an edit summary (in the "Summary" box below your edit screen), I wouldn't have had to do a web search to find that out, though I might have still wanted to read the story.

Anyway, I'm wondering whether you're familiar with New Rochelle. I work there but don't spend that much time there except on the way to and from work and I'm also on foot there, so there are many things, including the northern side of town, that I'm unfamiliar with. So any useful information you could add that might be of interest to a visitor would be great! Commons could use more good photos of that city, too.

    All the best,
