    Old talk page

    [edit]

In merging your old account to this one, your old talk page wasn't moved because of the existence of this one. All subpages of your user and usertalk pages were moved, though. Anyway, I'll let you sort things out ;) --Peter Talk 00:28, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and your old user page was deleted too. I recreated it as a redirect, but you have admin rights, so you can go back into the deleted revisions if you want to restore them and move them over your current one, as you like. --Peter Talk 00:32, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

    Image migration update

    [edit]

I wanted to respond to your question in the wts-old pub in a less cluttered environment!

As far as I can tell, your uploads have all been transferred, except this one [1], which seems to have an unclear source. I'm guessing the author had uploaded it to wt/en and then you moved it to Shared? I'm honestly a little unclear on what we're doing with those images, that lack the original upload log.

We've moved into a second, longer phase of re-checking images that are already tagged (I'm pretty sure everything was tagged that had a category). We've been doing the transfers by user, and you can see that process here [2]. Basically, we're going through all users uploads that have contributed a significant amount of files, and really being sure that everything is in order (FOP concerns, source/authorship clearly stated, etc.). That's detailed more here [3].

All KeepLocal images (If I'm not mistaken) have been transferred to here already.

Other plans that haven't yet been put into effect are to move all files that have a statement of authorship attributing the uploader, since those are easy. Those will get sorted out on Commons. We also will hopefully come up with a way to tag high priority images for transfer, independent of uploader.

The rest? Well, it's going to be a long process, and we're pretty much giving up on en-old, since those images have so little documentation (unless a contributor is willing to go through their uploads and add proper {{information}} templates. The idea now is to move forward here as though the transfer were over, even though it is going to continue [4]. --Peter Talk 03:03, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

    Thank you for the welcome...

    [edit]

I appreciate it. I notice the style of WikiVoyage is more free flowing, less pedantic than WikiPedia, which I also enjoy.

As you offered help I have three quick questions:

    1. where do I find the templates for structuring information? {Sleep, Do, Go, etc.}
    2. I entered cultural information onto the Israel and Eilat pages because of my own experiences of travelers stranded by not knowing cultural ABC's. Is there or should there be a "culture/customs" heading or subheading?
    3. And lastly: I added the item "Eilat University Campus Cafeteria" to the Eilat page including several personal observations. Would you look it over and give your opinion?

    Toll plaza images

    [edit]

Hey Ravikiran, I'm rsrikanth05, from the English Wikipedia/ Wikidata/Wikimedia Commons. I noticed that you uploaded a snap of the toll plaza on the Eastern Express Highway near Thane. I was wondering, could you possibly get someone to snap the IRB toll plaza a little ahead towards Bhiwandi? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 21:47, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Any comment here?

    [edit]

I have started work on an article that might eventually become "On the trail of Kipling's Kim" or some such title. The draft is at User:Pashley/Sandbox. Obviously, this could use comment from an Indian, and I thought of you.

(Parenthetically, at one point there was a fairly active Indian teenager, sometimes problematic but with potential. Has he vanished?)

This is not urgent. The article is nowhere near done and not even under active development right now. Pashley (talk) 00:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing me to it. I get the feeling that it will be a lovely itinerary when it shapes up. I will have a deeper look this weekend, hopefully. Upamanyu, when I last checked, was in college. I've connected with him on Facebook and I'd sent him a mail about the migration to Wikivoyage, but I never got a response. He might have lost interest or something. — Ravikiran (talk) 04:50, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
What exactly is a hakim? I currently gloss it as "a hakim (Indian doctor)"; I'm certain it is more complicated than that, but I have no idea what else to say. Pashley (talk) 22:37, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'll take some time to read it fully, but I will correct one inaccuracy that's leaped out at me - Lahore was never the capital of India, under the Moghuls or anyone else. The Moghuls were based, at various times, in Agra and Shahjehanabad(which is now Old Delhi) Lahore was, when the Moghuls ruled it, the provincial capital of Punjab, a place where they sent their crown princes as Governors. Of course, during the period of their decline, they had lost control of the province by the mid-18th century and was ruled by invaders from the West. — Ravikiran (talk) 05:32, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Lahore served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1585 to 1598. --Saqib (talk) 08:22, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Bhubaneswar pagebanner

    [edit]

Hi, and thanks for all the work you're doing!

However, your pagebanner for Bhubaneswar should be reverted, since pagebanners need to go all the way across the page from the left margin to the right margin. Please fix that, or someone will revert your edit soon.

    Hyderabad districting

    [edit]

How are you, Ravikiran? I'm glad to see you starting on Hyderabad district articles. I'm wondering if you'd like to post definitions of the boundaries you believe each district should have on Talk:Hyderabad, so that one of the folks here who knows how to make a static map can create one and place it in the "Districts" section of the article. I don't know how to make maps, but User:Saqib and several other folks do, and it seems like a step that could be taken soon. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:16, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm in Russian Far East for a month so really no time these days. But once I am back from where I belong, I'll surely do the map. Once districtification is done, please drop me a message on my talk page. Thank you. --Saqib (talk) 12:20, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I had forgotten about that. You're not the only mapmaking expert, but I think you're the most active. I hope you're having a wonderful time! Will you make it to Kamchatka? A friend of mine had a great visit there a few years ago. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:30, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, no Kamchatka unfortunately, It is really too far. Right now I'm in Primorsky Krai, in few days will be in Khabarovsk Krai and then to Sakhalin which is my last destination in Far East before flying to Western Russia. --Saqib (talk) 12:53, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

    • Great - Thank you for changing it back - I did change a lot of them and I know that Taxila was in error on my part. I tried to make sure I only did Indian articles - and not those of Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc. - good catch. I went back and rechecked all the articles I edited as I had planned to do and corrected 2 others (1 in Nepal and 1 in Sri Lanka) -- a lot of nice articles in Pakistan - Peshawar has changed a lot over the years -- Matroc (talk) 05:31, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

    Hyderabad districting

    [edit]

Hi, I want your input on the district boundaries to be used for Hyderabad. Right now, I am unsure of the exact boundaries, and there are also large areas that seem to not be in any district - see here. Ideally every part of the city should be part of a named district, so that every site can go on a specific district page. Would you be interested in looking at the map I drew, and commenting/drawing your own map? Thanks! Ar2332 (talk) 22:26, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

    [edit]

    Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

    Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
