    Commendation on Updating Wuhan Epidemic

    Regarding NPOV

    [edit]

    Just in inform you, we do not have a NPOV policy like they do at Wikipedia. Instead, the policy we have is Be fair. It's true that we generally try not to take sides in political disputes, but when they affect travellers, we have to provide essential information regarding that, and that may sometimes entail taking sides. For instance, in the case of Hong Kong, we do not take a stand on whether or not Hong Kong should be independent. We simply state that there is an active independence movement and leave it at that. On the other hand, we do mention that mainland Chinese are discriminated against by the locals in Hong Kong, as that is something that impacts the experience of travellers, so we are mandated to cover it even if it comes off as taking sides. The dog2 (talk) 17:14, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

    @The dog2:OK, thanks for your reminder.廣九直通車 (talk) 06:13, 12 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Travelling with conscription requirements

    [edit]
    Swept in from the pub

    As some countries impose travel restrictions to nationals who are eligible for conscription, it is suitable to create an article something like Travelling with conscription requirements? If so, is the title appropriate? Regards.廣九直通車 (talk) 08:59, 24 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Seems OK to me. What other title could be clearer? I can't think of one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:35, 24 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
    @Ikan Kekek:Or Travelling with military requirements? Just in case to include reservists who are also subject to travel restrictions (eg. South Korea).廣九直通車 (talk) 13:53, 24 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
    Good point. I don't know; what's the best way to express this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:14, 24 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
    Perhaps just go bold? If there are necessities to rename, then they can be done later...廣九直通車 (talk) 06:09, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
    One thing to keep in mind though. As per our illegal activities policy, we should not provide information on how to illegally dodge conscription. The focus should be travelling legally when you are subject to conscription. The dog2 (talk) 19:33, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    @The dog2:So a disclaimer should be added?廣九直通車 (talk) 02:52, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    We could, but I don't think it's that important. What's important is that we don't provide advice on illegal activities as per site policy. So for such an article, we can mention the procedures you might need to go through to legally travel. What we cannot do is provide advice on how to illegally dodge conscription. The dog2 (talk) 03:05, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    OK, I checked that there are no such contents now. The current focus of the article is how to apply for exit permit, exemption for reserve training mobilization etc.廣九直通車 (talk) 03:10, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Visa restrictions

    [edit]

    Regarding this change, why wouldn't we have a warning box on temporary and sudden visa restrictions? That seems like very important information for travellers. Is there a Wikivoyage policy on this? Ground Zero (talk) 09:12, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

    @Ground Zero:As per the instructions of {{Warningbox}}, the template is used only for for non-obvious dangers to life and limb. Perhaps some sudden change of visa policy may qualify for {{Cautionbox}}, but IMO this doesn't qualify for warningbox, regards.廣九直通車 (talk) 11:56, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
    Thanks for pointing out the policy. This is important information for travellers, so deleting it is a bad idea. I have restored the information as a cautionbox. Ground Zero (talk) 12:10, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Minneapolis

    [edit]

    Thanks for adding warning boxes for that region. I’ve made a couple minor changes, such as grammar, “units have” — not “has” — but otherwise I appreciate the work you’ve done to keep those articles updated while also trying to stay fair between the two sides. We may, in the near future, need more of these travel warnings to American cities. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 01:17, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

    @SelfieCity:Thanks! By the way, do you think Trump's statement of "When the looting starts, the shooting starts" is relevant enough to be added into the warning? I mean, it's a strong message threatening the use of deadly force, and may affect travellers.廣九直通車 (talk) 03:18, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    Well, the question I’m wondering is, is the National Guard actually doing that? If they didn’t last night, it doesn’t seem as likely they will. Perhaps we could say something like, “The National Guard may shoot those suspected of looting.” --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:10, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

    Updating COVID-19 information

    [edit]

    Hi User:廣九直通車, any chance you'd be able to help update the COVID-19 boxes at Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Rail travel in China? Some of them haven't been updated in quite a while. —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:21, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

    @Mx. Granger: Thanks. It seems that most of the COVID-19-related advice are pretty the same (except for LeaveHomeSafe becoming mandatory for restaurants in Hong Kong), though as you may have know, Mainland and Hong Kong authorities are discussing on reopening the border. I'll probably follow up on the situation if they announced something new, regards.廣九直通車 (talk) 04:06, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
    Thanks! —Granger (talk · contribs) 10:15, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

    Admin?

    [edit]

    Just wondering, would you be interested in becoming an admin, so it would be easier for you to block and revert vandals when you see them? I'd be happy to nominate you if you're keen. The dog2 (talk) 16:32, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

    @The dog2: Thanks for your appreciation, but my university is known for being "Stress and Tension" (you can guess which university it is, though). I'd also like to strive for a more balanced life between different projects, so I won't apply or accept nominations for adminship in anywhere.廣九直通車 (talk) 06:32, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

    Singaporean tourists in Hong Kong

    [edit]

    I don't know if it has changed now, but when I was young, Hong Kong was a very popular shopping and dining destination for Singaporeans, I'd say up there with Bangkok. Both Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines use to fly between Singapore and Hong Kong 5-7 times a day before the pandemic. Maybe it's not as popular anymore because the younger Singaporean Cantonese don't speak Cantonese anymore, but still, when my friends, most of whom don't speak Cantonese, visit Hong Kong, they usually have no problems speaking English to the locals. Usually, for Singaporeans, Hong Kong is a place you'll go to on a long weekend to shop and eat, the head home for work. The dog2 (talk) 16:16, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

    @The dog2: I see, sorry about that. As a local I'll say Chinese tourists >> foreign tourists in Hong Kong since 2003, maybe foreign tourists are less prominent on streets and stores when compared with Chinese tourists. That said, given by your observations, I've restored your edits.廣九直通車 (talk) 03:17, 17 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
    For sure. Before the handover back to China, Singapore used to be the main source of tourists to Hong Kong. But now mainlanders are by far the biggest group. I myself have been to Hong Kong a few times, and I know how to speak Cantonese now, although I didn't when I first visited as a kid. The dog2 (talk) 03:27, 17 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

    গুয়াংজু জিথং চে

    [edit]

    Is it your name in Bengali? জয়শ্রীরাম সরকার (talk) 02:56, 24 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

    @জয়শ্রীরাম সরকার: No, it's in Chinese.廣九直通車 (talk) 07:16, 24 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
    I wanted to asked that how your name in Bengali should be written. গুয়াংজু জিথং চে? Or how your name is written in Roman script. জয়শ্রীরাম সরকার (talk) 19:04, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
