Welcome, and an important question
[edit]Hello Dbludblo! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian, then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub, as a reply below or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!
And now my question: Did you copy and paste this from anywhere? If you did, that would not be OK, and you should read Wikivoyage:Copyleft. I believe it is also too much background in too much detail for a travel guide. Could you please select the details that are most interesting and - such as the Satsuma Students, who are commemorated with a current-day museum - most clearly relevant to travelers?
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:55, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, first of all, thank you for leaving feedback. I've tried to simplify it, and I'd appreciate it if you could see if it's okay. Dbludblo (talk) 06:51, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- I will try to have a look tomorrow, after I have some sleep, though I'll be busy, but please reply to my question. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:35, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Okay. It wasn't copied and pasted separately, but it was processed based on the information on the city hall and tourism sites. Dbludblo (talk) 08:32, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "processed"? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:52, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- There seems to have been an error using a translator. It means that the above materials were edited and modified. Dbludblo (talk) 09:04, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- OK, that's good. I normally state sources in edit summaries, but summarizing and paraphrasing is OK, within limits. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:21, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- I see. Thank you! If I want to mark the source, would it be better to create a separate source space and link it? Dbludblo (talk) 11:03, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- No, and don't make inline links of Wikipedia like this: it violates Wikivoyage:Links from Wikipedia, so the links need to be removed. See also Wikivoyage:External links. I said it's good to state your sources in edit summaries, which you put in the "Summary:" box below your edit screen. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:26, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your feedback. In summary, the source should be made and marked in summary, but if the source is Wikipedia, do I just mark it without leaving a link, and if the source is the city's official website, do I just leave a mark and a link at the same time? Dbludblo (talk) 02:57, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- Do it however you want, but I want to make sure you are aware that edit summaries are not in the article, only in the article's history. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:52, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's only summarized in history. I haven't summarized anything else. I don't know if you want this or if you should put the source at the base of history, but I'm leaving an answer. Dbludblo (talk) 03:58, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

Page banners
[edit]The pate banner that you added to Hioki is not in the correct 7:1 dimension.
Banners can be cropped online using CropTool without editing them in an external picture editor. Another advantage is that most of the necessary file information (author, description, license) is added automatically.
- Open existing source the file in Commons
- Select CropTool from the Tools panel on the left
- (The first time, you have to authorize the tool)
- Select Aspect ratio: 7:1, press Preview
- Check the preview, select Upload as new file and type the new file name according to the above instructions
- Press Upload
- After successful upload, check the new file and add it to the appropriate category "Category:Wikivoyage banners of "

- Thank you for your feedback. I just modified it, so I'd appreciate it if you could check it. Dbludblo (talk) 06:37, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- There's a bigger problem with that article. Please read Talk:Hioki. We don't have articles about neighborhoods within cities unless the articles about the cities in question are overwhelmingly long and a complete districting scheme for the entire city has been proposed, discussed and agreed upon. - Please check the talk page of hioki. Dbludblo (talk) 07:23, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

What not to say about the locations of listings
[edit]"The hotel is 1.7 km away from Ibusuki Station" is considered location touting on this site. You can say a hotel is right next to or directly across the street from the train station; otherwise, just give the street address and geocoordinates and leave it at that. Thanks!
