Hello Sarbast.T.Hameed! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → Article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!
It is good having an Iraqi editor on board to help improve Wikivoyage! We look forward to your contributions. Gizza (roam) 08:39, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- Welcome indeed! I know that it's traditional to use flowery, beautiful writing in much of the Middle East, but the style of Wikivoyage listings for businesses is generally to just present facts, so as to avoid the appearance of advertising. Have a look at how I edited the listing you added. You can see my explanations for the edits in the edit summary I typed (you can see that near the upper right corner in the link). Please ask me any questions you have by replying below. I'll see it if you do. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:01, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks (Ikan) for your valued advise for my edits as it looked like it was advertising but in fact it was not as it was my 1st edit or adding and the same thing for Kebab Yassin as it was my own experiment, so for sure I will avoid it in the future and thanks again for the advice Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 22:26, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- Certainly. And I used the phrase "appearance of advertising", meaning that it looked like it could have been an advertisement even if you didn't mean for it to be one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:20, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Banner cropping
[edit]Hello Sarbast.T.Hameed, thank you for cropping the oversized banners! I see you are using the CropTool. Did you notice that you can set an exact cropping ratio of 7:1? Also please mind that the minimum width of banners is 1800 pixels. Cheers, --Danapit (talk) 08:53, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Danapit... yes, I did notice that and did so but the resolution was going down when doing the Cropping ... I will try to fix this issue also ..thanks --Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 09:04, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- Sadly, in case of Sinjar the original photo already is too small. I think there is nothing much we can do, except finding another banner with larger resolution and leaving the present one until then. --Danapit (talk) 09:10, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- I Agree as I tried to do fix the issue but something went wrong and the image was corrupted but I will try to fix it also...--Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 09:12, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your contributions to city articles in Iraqi Kurdistan, it's great to see this off the beaten path region grown on Wikivoyage! ArticCynda (talk) 07:58, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Dear ArticCynda... it is my pleasure and I am honored to be one of the contributors of such an article as being one of the local citizens of Iraqi Kurdistan and of Erbil specifically and I will continue to help whenever I could...--Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 11:22, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- It's great to have someone like you with actual knowledge of the area on board of the Wikivoyage project, so don't hesitate to ask for advice if you need help of any kind. ArticCynda (talk) 12:54, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks My Dear and indeed I will if I need any kind of info ... and the same for you and anyone here it will be a privilege for me to help and support in Iraqi Kurdistan regards and in Erbil specially and Kirkuk also as I am originally from there.--Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 20:24, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Building upon your work, I have taken the liberty to add a dynamic map to the Iraqi Kurdistan article, with color coded regions according to the "official" outlines of districts on Wikidata. Since you're native and expert, could you share your opinion on whether or not the proposed outlines are correct? Do they reflect the actual borders of Iraqi Kurdistan, or should an additional region for KRG controlled areas be added? Some of the map markers now fall outside the "official" borders of Iraqi Kurdistan.
- Would you also please consider writing descriptions for each of the existing 4 regions? In the current attempt I only mentioned the cities and geography since I don't know much about them, but it would be nice is details about traditions, attractions, sights etc. could be added here as well.
- Finally, do you think each of the 4 governorates deserve a separate region article? ArticCynda (talk) 11:18, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Hi DearArticCynda and Sorry for being late again as I was out of Iraq in Turkey and the Internet Connection was Flapping and cannot open any WikiProject there without a Good Internet Connection and a [VPN] App, it was a great job to add the dynamic map to the article and for the current situation it is the almost the real Map but actually if you go back in close time there were other regions and districts included to it also such as Kirkuk, Khanaqin, kalar, Kifri, Sarqala, Qara Tapa, Jalawla, mandali, Tuz khormato, Jabara, ..... (The Bold one is already still in the Kurdistan Region),...and so many others which are located in the Gray Coded regions but after 16 October 2017 and the [Battle of Kirkuk (2017)] so many things changed unfortunately as you can see it from the mentioned article, and sure I will put this article on my Priority list and will do my best to develop it ASAP with best description and information adding to it, for the details about traditions, attractions and other information related to theses regions they are alrady mentioned in thier separateed articles so I think no need for further separate region article...--Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 11:25, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes the situation is quite volatile, particularly since Kirkuk was captured by Iraqi government forces, and the peshmerga lost control of it. All the maps online say something different about the actual territory held by the Iraqi Kurdistan regional government. Could you sketch the current situation on a map? I'd be more than willing to convert it to a digital format if you can provide me with an a more or less up to date sketch of the situation. ArticCynda (talk) 18:24, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- actually as far as I know and as I declared above it is already mentioned the name of the areas under Kurdistan Controle in the Bould Fonte and I can not sketch it exactly but if you Zoomed the Map you can see other sub-areas ( all of Kirkuk, some areas from Tikrit, others from Baqubah and others...) which I mentioned that have been taken from Iraqi Kurdistan and their borders clearly... --Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 22:18, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

File:Koye-st.JPG
[edit]Hi! A page banner that you created back in March 2018 on WikiVoyage, File:Koye-st.JPG, that is being used on the following page, has not been published to [Wikimedia Commons] (WC).
I was hoping that you would publish the banner to WC so that I can add it to the WikiData (WD) entry for [Koya]. By doing this, I will then be able to remove Hornsherred from the [Banner to WD] Maintenance Category on WikiVoyage.
I have been going through the "Banner to WD" entries to try and clear up the pages that have not been published to WD. Thanks for your help! Zcarstvnz (talk) 10:53, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
