Bankim is a town and commune in the Mayo-Banyo department of the Adamaoua region of Cameroon. It is located about 95 kilometres from Foumban and 125 kilometres from Banyo. The area’s vegetation is of shrub savanna type.

Bankim is said to have been founded in 1395 by the local chief Kimi who founded the Tikar kingdom. Eldridge Mohammadou has given a date of 1760 to 1780 as the foundation date for the chiefdom. The economy of Bankim is based on agriculture, livestock, and trade. The main crops grown in the area are maize, millet, sorghum, and groundnuts. Livestock raised in the area include cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.

This town is a major market town for the region. The town has a weekly market that is held on Thursdays. The market attracts traders from all over the region, as well as from neighbouring Nigeria. Bankim is also a centre for Islamic education. The town has several madrassas, or Islamic schools.

Bankim is a popular tourist destination. The town is home to several historical sites, including the ruins of the Tikar kingdom. The town is also home to several natural attractions, including the Mbam River and the Kimbi Forest.

Communications:

Bankim is situated along the main road connecting Foumban to Banyo. The provincial road (P26) runs from nearby Nyamboya to Ndu, passing through Sonkolong, Atta, and Sabongari. The town features a post office, a hotel, several medical facilities, and branches of Union Express and Exchange Express. Mobile phone coverage is reliable in the area.
