Thank you for your helpful updates to Lubbock. All the best, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 21:54, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Lubbock pagebanner
[edit]Hi there. If you want to add a header image (pagebanner) to the Lubbock article, simply insert the filename into the banner template, like so: {{pagebanner|Filename.jpg}} - no need for the URL, the File: prefix or anything else. Just so you know, though, the image you're trying to use isn't the right width to height ratio; please see Wikivoyage:Banners for that and other policies regarding pagebanners. The Creative Commons license does allow you to crop the image to your liking and reupload it to Commons, though, so feel free to play around with it. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 00:05, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
One other thing. There is a tutorial explaining how to add pagebanners to Wikidata. Adding pagebanners to Wikidata is important because it enables other language versions of Wikivoyage to use our pagebanners and vice versa. I've already added the pagebanner to Wikidata in the case of Lubbock, but in future it would be helpful if you added the pagebanners to Wikidata after adding them to Wikivoyage. Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:09, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
Richat Structure
[edit]Hello. I redirected Richat Structure to Saharan Mauritania and copied your listing there. Generally, standalone sights don't get their own pages on Wikivoyage; for information, see WV:WIAA. However, Saharan Mauritania may not be the best place for that listing; it may be that you want to create a city or (if appropriate) park article for somewhere that is more geographically specific, and that's okay. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you disagree.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 11:26, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for all that and for helping to familiarize me with Wikivoyage formatting. I guess I'll just leave it for someone else if they want to list it under a city. I'm guessing Atar or Chinguetti (or Ouadane) would be the appropriate locality it would fall under, but I don't have any firsthand knowledge of how to get to the Richat Structure, so I'm not sure what the most appropriate placement would be (like if you have to arrange transport way back in Atar or something). There doesn't seem to be much in the way of information about that on the internet. Thank you. Lazarus1255 (talk) 15:52, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
Edit summaries
[edit]Hi, please be careful to use edit summaries that accurately summarize the changes you're making. This is not a copyedit. —Granger (talk · contribs) 20:27, 6 August 2020 (UTC) Oh yes, sorry, that was not a good summarization of what I did there. I should have reviewed the meaning of copyedit first. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Will try to be clearer in the future. Lazarus1255 (talk) 20:36, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi there. About this article creation of yours, please check out the wiaa policy. I'm not sure it is a valid article. Just a heads-up. Ibaman (talk) 21:04, 13 August 2020 (UTC) Oh, okay, thank you. I had looked at that policy page once before, and based on what it said about a locality getting its own page if it had a place to stay, I didn't think I could create a new city listing (for Munshiganj, in this case), since I couldn't find any hotels there. So that's why I put the fort (and a Hindu temple) under Other Destinations on the Dhaka District page. But do you think I should put it under the See submenu for the city of Dhaka instead? Or create a rural area page? I'm not really sure how to organize it. Thanks. 2600:1700:DA4:8090:B07C:67CF:2B1B:BE21 21:15, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
So sorry, I forgot to sign in before posting. Lazarus1255 (talk) 21:17, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- I think it's fine and proper to keep just this listing on Dhaka Division for the time being, with an expanded description about history and present state, if merited. By the way, keep up the good work, it's much appreciated. Ibaman (talk) 21:36, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, Ibaman. Lazarus1255 (talk) 22:56, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Thank you for all of the updates you've been adding. We'll be able to travel again one day, and I'm sure that a lot of travellers will benefit from the information you're providing. Ground Zero (talk) 11:35, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. It gives me something to do, heh. Thanks for the tips about currency and time standards. I have sometimes hesitated over adding certain things, such as the springs in southern Tajikistan, knowing that is kind of in the same area where the 2018 cyclist terrorism incident occurred, or beaches on Lake Victoria in Kampala, when bilharzia is present there. I'm glad everything on here can be peer reviewed. Lazarus1255 (talk) 14:39, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
The "don't tout" guidelines
[edit]Hi, User:Lazarus1255. I don't think anyone's mentioned this to you before, except in some edit summaries, but at times, some of the descriptions you post in listings aren't in keeping with this site's guidelines on avoiding promotional language, so have a look at the don't tout link. Also, when you add URLs for hotels, try to avoid including any irrelevant extensions, as Wikivoyage policy is to use the shortest URL that's needed. Have a look at these edits and this edit summary. And as always, many thanks for adding so much excellent content!
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:24, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, thank you, I appreciate you showing that to me. I see what you mean about the websites addresses. And I think I get it about the touting - no flowery or prosaic type of thing trying to be witty, etc, is that right? I was trying to avoid writing just the same thing, but I will definitely try to keep these things in mind and be concise. Thank you again.Lazarus1255 (talk) 23:03, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Witty writing is fine! Just be specific. The thing that usually makes a passage touty is empty or vague expressions like "and much more!", "award-winning", "close to x", etc. Non-touty would be "well-known locally for its x, y, z, a, b and c", "awarded a bib gourmand from 2016-2020 by Michelin", "right across the street from x". Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:42, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oh okay, sounds good. I will try to remember. Thanks. Lazarus1255 (talk) 00:20, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Do you speak Cebuano?
[edit]I notice you editing a lot of pages for the Cebu region, wonder if you speak the local language.
We once had two phrasebooks for that, Cebuano & Bisaya. After some discussion Talk:Visayan languages we now have only Cebuano phrasebook but the other has been saved to Cebuano phrasebook/Bisaya & should perhaps be merged. Pashley (talk) 06:48, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well, no, sadly I don't. I could ask my Filipino friend his thoughts on it, although, to be honest, I can't remember for sure if he is from Luzon or Visayas as he is an expat in the UAE right now. You are thinking of merging the contents of both into one article?Lazarus1255 (talk) 16:28, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Okay. Well, unfortunately, I found out he's from Manila. But I'll try to ask my other Filipino friend...Lazarus1255 (talk) 04:51, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

USA
[edit]Moved from Talk:Main page
Well, there it is, I guess America has decided, and I guess it will be a perpetual black hole and perpetual presence on countries' Covid-19 do not travel list since its citizens decided they want to continue in a pattern of no direction and non-cooperation with the world. It feels like living in some dark, senseless land anymore. Lazarus1255 (talk) 06:36, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- except it ain't over yet... The popular vote is already shaping up to be a blowout and there's still a lot of mail-in ballots to count in key swing states... Hobbitschuster (talk) 06:42, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Hobbitschuster, it's encouraging to hear. Lazarus1255 (talk) 10:51, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- What does the US election have to do with the Main Page? This should probably be deleted. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 11:42, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm minded to move this to the Pub. Those in the community who want to discuss the train wreck happening over the pond can do so there.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 11:50, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- For the record, I'm really, really sorry for all of you living through this nightmare; stay strong.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 11:56, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- The election isn't even over, but regardless of the outcome, This site isn't the place to get "encouragement" or to discuss how senseless Americans are either. Aren't "political discussions" prohibited? Are we really allowed to start political discussions as long as they are in The Pub? I've never heard that. Again, this discussion should be deleted. - I think this post isn't related to our function as a travel guide, so it is better off on the user's talk page. Lazarus1255 is new to Wikivoyage and cannot be expected to know all of our rules and customs, so there is no harm done here. Ground Zero (talk) 14:10, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

- Lazarus, did you learn nothing from the 2018 midterms? What looks on Election Night like a Democratic underperformance can often turn into a blowout later on as absentee and mail-in ballots, which have always leaned Democratic but especially so this year, trickle in. This election isn't over yet, but most of the ballots yet to be counted are mail-in, or come from urban areas like Philadelphia and Detroit which also lean heavily Democratic. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 14:42, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry guys, my bad, I shouldn't have posted this here. Thanks for all the encouragement and help, AndreCarrotflower and everyone. I am kind of new, but, ehh, I should have known this isn't the place. I'll try to delete this now.Lazarus1255 (talk) 16:11, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, haha, what a dummy I am, I see it has already been moved. I guess should I just leave it here where it's at or delete the whole thing?Lazarus1255 (talk) 16:14, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- It's on your talk page, so it's up to you.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:41, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
I made the same mistake as you too. On Tuesday night, I thought it was a Trump landslide, especially with his 20-point lead in Michigan, but as of now, Biden looks very likely to pull this off, with Michigan already declared for Biden. The dog2 (talk) 02:28, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- I must say it feels like an unending ordeal. I had my little moment on here, lol, but hopefully I'm over it now. It seemed like starting over somewhere like Phuket might be the way to go, but then I realized no one probably wants us Americans seeing as we are the coronavirus incubation center of the world and not exactly the forerunner of amiable international relations anymore. Thanks for all your encouraging thoughts, dog2. Lazarus1255 (talk) 07:14, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm actually a foreigner living in the US and I can't go back to my home country to visit my family like I normally do every year due to the pandemic. So I certainly understand the frustration. But let's hope thing get better next year so we can all travel again. The dog2 (talk) 07:17, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

- Possibly by searching for the places in Google Maps and some review sites like Tripadvisor, this is at least how I do. And I also want to thank Lazarus for keeping the articles up to date. --Ypsilon (talk) 14:03, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Oh yes, like Ypsilon says, I check Internet sources, particularly Google, Tripadvisor, Facebook, Restaurantguru, Foursquare, etc. A lot of times they'll explicitly say the business has closed and/or there will be no signs of activity like posts/reviews for around 10 years. But I definitely try to err on the side of caution. I guess I started doing it when I saw so many listings in Panajachel that had urls that redirected to phishing sites or similar dodgy places - didn't want WV users to get a computer virus or misled either in making travel plans at a place that had been gone for 10 years. Anyway, I hope it has been a good idea. I'll definitely change course if it's not. Thanks Ypsilon! Lazarus1255 (talk) 18:13, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your edit to that article. FYI, there is some sentiment on wiki not to link Facebook or other social media sites for privacy reasons. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:29, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Oh, thank you, Selfie City. I didn't realize that. That is good to know, and I will try to forego inserting social media links from now on. Thanks. Lazarus1255 (talk) 17:55, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, unfortunately many restaurants have social media in place of websites. On Wikivoyage, however, we don’t want readers clicking to go to a website only to discover after they have gone to a website where their data may be sold. But it’s only a minor issue and not a policy issue, more an ethical one. Thanks for the reply! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:28, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- We do allow links to businesses' Facebook pages if they don't have their own websites. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- I'm going by much of the sentiment expressed in this discussion, where quite a few people seemed to oppose including the social media icons. But for further discussion this isn't the right place. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:40, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- This was already decided upon: No social media icons, but Facebook pages can be put in the "url" tab if a business doesn't have their own web page. See the 4th line of What not to link to. If you oppose what's there, start a thread at Wikivoyage talk:External links. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:54, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, now I see that page, it puts the policy in a clearer light. I was not aware there was policy on this matter. I'll think about it, since the privacy issue is really important, but so is restaurant information. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:31, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Great work on creating new articles articles! One note, though, is that we try to make things easier for readers by using one time format per article, rather than changing from one format to another to another through an article. In countries that use a 12-hour format, like the U.S., the format we use is 9AM-noon, 6PM-midnight, and not "am", "pm", "a.m.", "p.m.", or other variations. For days of the week, we use these standard abbreviations: M Tu W Th F Sa Su. This is set out in our style guide, WV:tdf. I hope that helps. Keep up the great work. Thanks. Ground Zero (talk) 11:41, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oh okay, thank you, I'll really try to remember to implement that format. I should really sit down and have a look at the style guide and other Wikivoyage writing procedures. WV has been a source of enjoyment and helped me to keep my sanity these past tumultuous months, at any rate. Okay, well, thanks for the remarks.Lazarus1255 (talk) 21:41, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Avoiding ambiguity
[edit]Please don't use 12PM or 12AM. They are ambiguous. People use both to mean noon or midnight, so just writing "noon" or "midnight" avoids confusion. The very next article I looked at after posting this, [1], used 12PM to mean midnight. Thanks, and keep up the great work. Ground Zero (talk) 16:40, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oh oh, thank you, I will definitely take note of that and do things that way from now on. Ugh, there must be so many instances where I used the wrong form out there - I hope it doesn't mess anyone up. Thanks for the encouragement. Lazarus1255 (talk) 17:13, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Hotel prices in Guadalajara
[edit]Hey!
Could you write where you got the hotel prices from for your stated hotels in Guadalajara? You added/updated them on 2 December 2020. The prices are like M$481 and not rounded to 5 or 10. And your stated prices are about half the price than on booking.com. That's why I thought they are wrong.
I updated the prices with the current ones on Google Maps/Booking.com. Are the prices of your stated hotels way lower when reserved directly at the hotel? Flightnavigator (talk) 02:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Actually, I just grabbed what was quoted by Google for those particular listings at the time. Maybe it's not really reflective of their typical price. Thanks for updating those. Lazarus1255 (talk) 04:11, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Could you please add the current month and year, when you update or confirm a price? Then other readers now, that the price is up to date.
Like: M$350 (Dec 2021) Flightnavigator (talk) 06:29, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Oh yes, that makes a lot of sense. I'll be sure to do that from now on. Thanks for letting me know of this good documentation practice. Lazarus1255 (talk) 10:38, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
