You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

On January 15, 2025, we are excited to commemorate our 12th year as a part of the Wikimedia family. In honor of this milestone, Wikimedia Small Projects and the Wikipedia Asian Month User Group are pleased to organize Wikivoyage Asian Month, a global editathon for Wikipedia Asian Month 2024. This initiative will invite each participating language version to contribute their efforts over two full months, from November 20, 2024 and January 20, 2025.

    Rules and criteria

    [edit]

English Wikivoyage will follow the global rules, but not the global award criteria. Instead, participants will receive 1 point per article if they contribute at least 2,000 bytes to a new/existing article.

    The global rules are:

    • The articles must be about destinations geographically in Asia, Asian travel topics, Asian itineraries or language phrasebooks commonly spoken in Asia as defined by Wikivoyage's boundaries.
    • The contributions will be considered valid if submitted between November 20, 2024 and January 20, 2025. The judges and organizers may allow exceptions at their discretion.
    • Please ensure that you are logged in to your Wikimedia account. We kindly ask participants to refrain from adding lengthy sections of text sourced from unedited machine translators. Do not repeatedly insert identical contents (e.g. phone number for emergency services, telco providers in connect, etc.) in multiple articles.
    • It is essential to adhere strictly to copyright rules. We encourage participants to avoid copying external content that does not have a compatible license with the projects, as this could lead to copyright violations and removal of the content. If you do use external content with a compatible license, please provide proper attribution according to the terms of use and copyright policy. We highly value new and original content!
    • Collaborative editing is encouraged, even if another contest participant is already working on the same article. Feel free to enhance the article by fixing links, updating information, and adding listings. However, we kindly request that article styling be handled by the organizers and experienced editors from that project.
    • Please be aware that disqualification may occur, at the discretion of the organizing team, if any edits are perceived as sabotage.

    How to contribute

    [edit]

What we really want is for you to be a successful contributor to Wikivoyage. Here's some information that might help you get started:

What article should I try to edit first?
There are lots of ways to help Wikivoyage. Here's one: Search for a city or other place you're already familiar with and read the article. (Your hometown? Your favorite vacation spot? Where you grew up?) Look through the article and ask yourself: What's missing? What's out of date? Did any listed place close during the pandemic, or change their prices or opening hours? Is there enough information that a traveller who had only this article could get to the destination, find a place to sleep, choose a restaurant to eat at, and find something to do? You can also look at some good articles to get an idea of what kind of information is usually included.
We recommend you start by fixing any obvious mistakes you see in the article, and updating obsolete information. In many instances this will only take a few minutes.
What kinds of edits should I make?
Wikivoyage is not like Wikipedia, so please don't copy content from Wikipedia or other websites. The traveller comes first, so everything in the article should be useful for a traveller. We want practical information about the places and attractions you could recommend. Enthusiastic endorsements are good ("three heated swimming pools and panoramic ocean views from every room"), but don't tout ("best food" or "near all major attractions"). If you want to add a less common type of information (afternoon tea? birdwatching? medical centre?), see where you can stick it.
    How do I edit?
We use listing templates to organize the contact information and other details that would be useful to a traveller. New listings (e.g., a restaurant or hotel) can be added to a section by clicking the [add listing] button. This will open a simple fill-in-the-blank form for you. If you're not sure what belongs in a blank, check the listings cheatsheet. Existing listings can be edited by clicking the small, light gray "edit" button at the end of an existing listing. Articles can also be edited in the normal wikitext and visual editors, by clicking the "Edit" buttons.

If a business has permanently closed, please remove it by simply checking the "Delete this listing?" box.
I want to create a new article.
This is welcome, but may require a bit more work on your part. First, search to see whether the article is truly missing. If it is, then see Wikivoyage:What is an article? This is our equivalent of Wikipedia's notability rules. If it seems like a valid destination, feel free to create the article. Please add your new article to the geographical hierarchy as soon as possible.
I think I need some help.
The English Wikivoyage has a friendly community. You can ask for help at the newcomers' Arrivals lounge or at the central Travellers' pub.
